I haven't posted on Iraq in awhile and there have been many...many negative Iraq stories circling about all forms of media lately (except for the rightwing blogs subscribed to by all it seems on this message board). Check this out from Pat Tillman's brother: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/10/21/kevin.tillman.ap/index.html I was wondering how those of you that so vehemently defend Bush no matter what the circumstances are and who triumphantly extoll his war in Iraq still feel about the war and it's progress and the reasons for the U.S instigating it. There was a poll recently that shows Americans feel less safe now than before the invasion of Iraq and also there are feelings that we are becoming more and more hated in the Muslim world than before and we have lost ground in international political stature as a result of this misadventure. What are some true thoughts out there and not just the usual knee jerk reactions to all of these musings? It's OK to respond to my comments but how about responding to Kevin Tillman's posted comments as well.
Kevin Tillman's comments are inflammatory but can certainly be excused due to his personal loss. In the begginning I stated that I was in favor of the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan for the reason offered. I still am. I had a "chip in the game" with my oldest son's involvement so I feel every right to speak out. I was never in favor of nation building and we were promised at the start that this would not be the case. That has not proven to be true. A neighbor kid just returned from 11 months in Iraq with a busted hand a nd a Purple Heart. He told me things are much worse now than they were on his first tour over there. I think we need to give both governments a short timetable to get it together, no longer than one year at the most. Then we pull out completely. I'm not finished. Then I would withdrawal all of our troops from around the world and bring them home. All of them. They would be reassigned to domestic security. All aliens in the US would be re-evaluated and immediately deported for any violations whatsoever, including improper paperwork. The emphasis would be on Arabs. I would suspend foreign aid to all countries for a minimum of two years, including Israel. After the moratorium anyone could re-apply for US handouts but only with a verifiable anti-terrorist plan in place. In short, we would become an isolationist nation. Let somebody else foot the bill, rush to help in natural disasters and famines, provide security. Let the French, Russians anyone else step up. We'll just clean up our own house, pay off our debt, re-arm our military. Time for a new world order. Was I clear enough?
George for President!!! Krebs that is... You and I are in complete agreement on this one. What has worked in the past is simply not working now. The only true ally we seem to have is Great Britain although the Japanese have such a financial stake in our future that they probably want to watch our back as well and protect their investments. Otherwise the rest of the world wants us to kiss their ass all the time and dole out trillions of handouts just to keep them supposedly in our corner. Any move we make to shore up our interests or gain political influence is viewed by the masses in other parts of the world as American Imperialism. I say...let 'em rot....or fry.
No comment necessary when you view the photo in this link. The human loss in this war is on both sides. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15372403/
