Well another win and the score looks pretty good, but this team looks just like last years team (and the year before that actually) except this year we are getting the good bounces. I will take the wins, but I think the next 2 years are when things really come together. Of course it is going to be hard to improve on the record.
Tide definitely aren't as flashy on offense as the Gators, or Texas or Texas Tech, or OU, or USC...but they just win and the Tide defense certainly seems to be of the bone crushing type!!
Don, Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying it. I am really saying that we were better the last couple of years than people gave us credit for, and if we finish 14 and O, I will be the idiot running screaming and yelling down I65. If we do lose I will still admire this team for its tenacity because these 11 wins have not come easily. I'm just saying we don't blow people out. We make few mistakes and capitalize on the mistakes the other team makes. It gets really tough if the other team doesn't make a few mistakes.
I remember a Bama team in 1992 that won ugly all year long then thrashed an unbeaten Miami team to win the National Championship. There was a lot of discussion about did a one loss FSU, who had lost to Miami, deserve to play Miami more than Alabama. Alabama proved they belonged. Then there was Ohio State in 2002 ( right year?) who did the same thing. Miami in 83 then beating Nebraska who had rolled over everyone is another example. And least I forget Florida in 2006. So take the wins as they come, and what I do know about this Bama team is how they took Clemson and Georgia to the woodshed. They may have ruined Clemson's season nd caused Tommy Bowden's downfall.
Those examples are great examples of why maybe it was the best thing that Florida took the day off vs. Ole Miss. If UF had played to it's capability that day...coupled with the results of every other domination this year in all the rest of the games then people would be saying such superlatives about this team that it would make their collective heads swim. As it is those things are aleady starting to happen with a lot of football left to be played but thankfully the team and the media and even the Skyboxers....especially the Skyboxers.... can point to the Ole Miss game as the real barometer of exactly who the Gators really are...... 8)
This year's SEC is similar to the old Big 10 with OSU, MI, and everybody else. There are only two high calibre teams in the SEC this year. The rest are mediocre at best. The intraleague competition in the SEC this year is not up to what it's been in the past. Nevertheless, like Bill, this year's Alabama team reminds me of the '92 Tide and the '02 Buckeyes. Win ugly, but win 'em all.......so far.
Thing is.....this Florida team is starting to look more like the '95 Huskers and the '96 Gators..... 8)
Not worried about the loss as I feel this team required that loss as a catalyst to be as good as they seem to be. Maybe that does separate them from '95 Nebraska but I'll take it if that's what the 2008 Gators needed.
