Well today I finally got around to doing what I'd meant to for a few weeks. I called AARP and told them that I resign. First was their gutless way of doing nothing to oppose the proposed "Health Care" plan. It calls for a 10% reduction in Medicare's budget as a "savings" measure. Of course cutting its budget while it's enrollees are expected to increase by 30% at the same time doesn't strike me as fiscally plausable. Now today we hear that there will be no Social Security COLA the next 2 yrs. Apparently at the same time Medicare premiums will rise somewhat so those that have the premiums deducted from the SS payments will actually be getting less. We all know that seniors are a significant voting bloc who can easily tip the balance in elections. So what does the administration plan to do about easing the problem that they're creating by shafting the seasoned ones? Why they're proposing "end of life counseling." On top of that, certain life extending procedures will more than likely be done away with to reduce the cost to Medicare. Anyone else out there think like I do that they're making a big, big mistake. (Disclosure. The writer will be turning 62 in a few months and is seriously thinking that getting on the SS train before it's completely derailed by the clowns in Congress might be the best route to take.)
People have, for far too long, been voting (if at all) blindly on issues or for politicians based solely on party affiliation or what their wallet tells them to do. Whichever side promises them the most presents under the tree as opposed to what they think and feel is right. This is/was bound to catch up with us.
