I just awoke from a 2 month snooze. Opened my newspaper ( PROJO.COM) and I see the Boston Red Sox have an 8.5 game lead over the Yankees..and its mid June already! How can this be? How can a team with a 220 mil Payroll be closer to the cellar then to the top? AMAZING!
Since you've been asleep you probably missed that the Yankees have already sold over 4,000,000 tickets this season ( 4th year in a row ). That would indicate that money is no object. Since they are not violating any league rules and this is a competitive sport I can't imagine what you're problem is. Given that you have spent tons of cash yourselves including $101,000,000 for a single Japanese pitcher with an ERA over 4.50 I think your angst may be misdirected. It is indeed a long season and a lot can happen. I said around Memorial day that the Yankees had to claw back one step at a time. They've taken back 40% of their deficit in two weeks. I don't expect that to continue at this pace but the goal is to reduce the deficit to a number less than the amount of remaining games with the Red Sox because if that happens you KNOW how this story ends 8) . By the way, tell us some more Pay Rod stories. Is he earning his keep?
Well the story with PAYROD is he ( it ) is a CURSE! A long running CURSE. It might last 100 years which puts the CURSE OF THE BAMBINO to shame. Will he hit 75 dingers, drive in 200 runs, Break Bonds forthcoming record? Sure! BUT..Will he ever wear a World Series ring?????
As you know Jiffer the Yankees completed a rather easy sweep of the D-Backs today. A-Rod had a couple more hits, a couple more RBIs. Don't lose tonight
Let's just hope the Sox bats don't snooze that long. Tommy Lasorda was in the WRKO booth for an inning tonight. He was in Boston for his annual tour promoting prostate cancer research (get tested, you fooks). Tommy had been at the Angels/Reds game earlier in the day - he said it was 92 degrees there - and he sounded tired, and maybe a little in his cups. He said the Dodgers will win their division, and at the end of his time in the booth he said to Sox announcer Joe Castiglione, "I just want to say that you're a great man, Joe. And I'm not saying that because you're Italian. I'm saying that because I'm Italian. Good old Tommy.
