Just talking, so don't everyone go off like I'm implying it will happen. Just curious what the thoughts would be if this were to transpire? Some of my friends have actually thought it might not be a good idea because of SOS's age. I think it would FLOOR the BigXII south. I actually think our new coach will be Mike Sherman, but would be thrilled to have the old ball coach for a while!
Interesting developement. I would be shocked however if SOS left the SEC. He did have a dust up with the South Carolina Administration over academics and recruiting and threatened to quit at the time. I thought it had all been cleared up but maybe he's still pissed. All you guys really need is a guy who can put it all together over a 5 year period and then after that when things are rolling if that guy retires then while you never know for sure about the next guy, you are at least searching for a coach from a position of strength not rebuilding.
OK... I'll start one too... Miles to Michigan... Fulmer to LSU... Spurrier to Tennessee... and the world ends one day later.
Mike Sherman is an interesting name for sure, he coached at A&M under RC didnt' he? I think Davie even tried to hire him to coach OL at ND when he first got the ND job. Other than that I'm not sure why Sherman would be the first choice.
I have heard a couple of those rumors. I think most of you know I think the world of Spurrier. However I am not sure that if my school was in the market for a coach I would be real excited about gtting one in his 60's. This coming from a guy who is past his 60's. I think you would like him.
I think maybe he's hit a wall at South Carolina. He hasn't exactly set the world on fire there. My question is why does everybody think that only a big name coach can win at Texas A&M? If I was the AD I'd be looking in the MAC, Mountain West or other conferences at that level for the next hot young coach.
Yeah, Sherman was the OL coach in the early 90's when we had some of the best OL's we've ever had. His stint as head man at Green Bay should play well with the kids that aspire to the NFL, and his coaching circle almost guarantees a great staff. Some of the names kicked around as being interested in working for Mike sound pretty good to us. I really don't think SOS will leave the east, but he is apparently at least listening to what we have to offer. I think the reason we aren't heavily pursuing an "up and comer" is there aren't a lot of them right now that have some kind of Texas ties. That will be a must with regard to recruiting here. With that said, I've heard Muschamp's name mentioned as a possibility if we don't get an "A" list guy...
He'd lose his playing privileges at Augusta, what many believe to be the sole reason for his move to SCar....... Hootie'd make him persona non grata in a heartbeat. I don't see it.
 8) Why would Spurrier go to A&M when he's on the verge of success at South Carolina at the SEC? Never happen....go for Larry Coker or Nutt....maybe Richt
