Well while the pigskin was getting ready to fly last weekend I had the joy of taking my son up to Georgia for a little white tail hunting. He had the good fortune to kill his first buck and I had the great joy of being with him in the stand when he shot it. For me the gift was seeing his face and happiness of getting this deer and this picture of the both of us being there for the moment... Ralph
Congratulations, Ralph. I'm not a hunter, but I can appreciate what it means to spend time with your son doing what you both enjoy. This was a huge milestone and a lasting memory for both of you. Did I count right? 8 points?
Congratulations. What a great moment it must have been for both of you. It sure brought back memories for me. PJ in Jersey
You know it kinda looks like Tennessee Vol orange now that I look at it close... We were in Georgia afterall so saying it might be a team color from the Sunshine State might have gotten us shot... Thanks everyone...
I was going to say that it looks Tennessee orange myself. Do you know why Tennessee picked orange for it's color? You can wear it to the game on Saturday, hunting on Sunday, and picking up trash on the side of the road the rest of the week! I am an equal opportunity basher! Congrats to your son on his first "harvest". Memories like this last forever.
Ralph, You ever think about getting up into the Northwoods of the Upper Midwest to do some deer hunting?
You can hunt with me every night on the five mile trip from my office to my home. I've bagged two does and a nice buck and narrowly missed countless others over the years. And the hunting here is good virtually every night. I've also had over $17,000 in body shop repairs. Great shooting! Come up to Howell, NJ and bring lots of ammo.
No but I would love to do some hunting up there Corey, it seems to be the ultimate Whitetail hunting area...I have to admit that watching my son kill this buck has got the juices flowing and helped me to remember why I loved hunting so much... George, I can relate to your dilema, I drive 90 miles back and forth to the farm and have had to add a pretty substantial cattle guard bumper on my truck after $15,000 damage on one truck and several hundred dollars on another...I dodge deer on the way to work but its the wildhogs that get me everytime, they are normally pitch black and do not have eyes that are reflective...Oh yeah one more thing, air bags going off in your face are no way to start the morning... One thing I have learned is its a bigger blessing to pass on what you love than to experience it yourself... Ralph
I live in the city and there are some large parks out in the county that have severe problems with feral hogs. They have been debating ways to curb the population growth but damn animal lovers/PETA keep portraying them like they are innocent cute little piglets instead of the destructive beasts that they are.
That hog reminds me of a 200 pound boar I shot in the thickest of thickets in NW Fla back when I was a 21 year old.....hunting with my Dad. He was approx 18 feet away when he stuck his head in an opening and I nervously let him have it with my 12 gauge buckshot. He was flippin' around while I scanned for the nearest tree to climb but then I shot him with the slug I had in the other barrel to finish him. Had razor sharp tusks about 2 inches long. Scary beast that one.....
Hey Ralph, Can you bow hunt those pigs without a license down there? If so, we may need to set up a trip As for white tail in the northwoods.. it's no joke.. My wife (at the time) and I once marveled at the size of one buck who ran alongside our car (a minivan) at the time.. his shoulders were literally right alongside the window... huge doesn't begin to describe it.
In Jersey we're suspicious of a bunch of guys huddle around with their cocks on display. But judging by the terrain maybe there's not much else to do 8)
