No problem...Fridays will be good for guys as well for the next 40 days!! For me it'll be Tuna Noodle Casserole!
You know I'm not real big on History, maybe one of the other well read Catholics on the board will give us the low down. But in today's world there are so many yummy things to eat that aren't meat that it's hardly much of a sacrafice. I'm mean shrimp done so many ways, Ahi Tuna, Salmon, Halibut, Swordfish, etc all can be very tasty. Then there is trout, telapia, redfish, catfish, sushi, vegetarian lasagne, it goes on and on. I wonder why in the old days they chose meat? I mean so many people back in the middle ages and before had little or no access to meat on a regular basis. Root vegtables, barley soup, potatoes, etc. Pretty bad diets...Unless of course you were a royal or a landowner.
You answered your own question Terry. If you want to make sure you can give something up for a certain period of time why not make it something that is not available... 8)
Ah I think that the original leaders of the pack were like Peter, fishermen. Somehow meat was out but fish was OK. Some things never change.
It goes deeper than that Gipper...all the way back to when Adam gave up ribs to have some apple appetizers, and eat some fish. please forgive me for that dear LORD
Having been brought up on a farm in North Dakota, I was never fond of Fridays as fresh fish were a rare treat. Living in Seattle, with its great seafood makes these dishes a treat, not a sacrifice. Also, even though I could never really understand this, lobster as well as shell fish, is not considered meat. Lobster, of course, is a bug as are crawdads which, as kids, we would collect from Bear Creek on our farm. Very tasty.
George, I used to go to the Ivar's water front outlet when I worked down town. There are several Ivar's in Seattle. I go there for lunch some days. Son Jeff who lives in Denver always visits there when in Seattle. As Ivar says: "Keep clam."
