From books I have read, he was a strange man. A top notch general but a strange man. He believed in reincarnation and believed himself to have been many war heroes from the past. I can overlook an issue such as this to have a man like Patton as a general in my army. We need more just like him.
The man was a warrior. I don't believe he was esp well liked by Eisenhower or Montgomery though was he?
It's difficult to understand him from the record. His military career speaks for itself, but there's a lot more. He was a local guy from San Gabriel, yet there are almost no local stories about him when he was growing up. He was one of the richest men in California, who regularly played polo with the likes of Walt Disney and Will Rogers. He was also an Olympic athlete in the pentathalon, who failed to win the gold medal because of his poor shooting! He went out for the football team at West Point, but had to drop out when he broke BOTH arms. Through out his life, he was one of those extraordinary characters that people told stories about, so it seems strange that so little is told of his high school days or earlier. It's almost as if he created his own legend as he went, yet there's plenty of evidence that he wasn't just acting or doing things for effect... :?:
