NOT looking forward to pitchers & catchers here. Our catcher is wearing pinstripes. He's been replaced by Rod Barajas, who was released by the Mets and Dionner Navarro who was traded away by us... On the other hand, we are saving tons of money on salaries so that Mrs. McCourt can take care of her poolboy...
JO'Co, I was shocked that the Dodgers let Russ Martin get away. I know he had an off year, but he was an elite catcher.
Well you need to make it to spring training in Ft. Myers to say you've done it. I farm 40 miles NE of Ft. Myers and was going to buy you a beer and watch a game with you. The City of Palms park where the Red Sox play is nice and I always have sales folks trying to give me tickets. I have not had the chance to see the Rays play in their new park up the road at Charlotte sports park even though its in the same county I farm in. Ralph
re: Russell Martin Martin was the captain of the Dodgers. He did a LOT more than just handle pitchers well and hit. He could also play every position on the defense except pitcher. He's a converted 3rd baseman who may finish his career there when he's done catching. BTW- the Dodger's offer to Russell Martin was indentical to the Yankee's offer. Martin RAN AWAY from Los Angeles and the McCourts. It wasn't his play or the pay...maybe he just doesn't know anything about swimming pools...
Ralph, you're probably aware of this...but the Red Sox are moving out of the City of Palms facility and going out near the airport off Daniels Parkway. The new complex will be quite close to the Twins training site. Scheduled to open in 2012, the ballpark will have the exact outfield dimensions of Fenway, including a green monster replica. Lee County is financing the whole thing, in turn for a 30 year lease agreement.
Stu, I knew they were moving but did not when or that it had been finalized. I moved out of Lee County several years ago and Dish dropped the local channels out of Ft. Myers in my area so I now only get Tampa news. If it is going to be close to the Twins facility it would have to go somewhere off Daniels and Six mile parkway or closer to the airport going East, interesting... What other news don't I know about in Ft. Myers... Thanks for the heads up on that. Since it doesn't sound like Jif is going to take me up on my offer sniff sniff I guess I will have to drink his beer as well as my own...Stu if you ever come down to the area let me know... Ralph
Damn I was hoping Jif would make the trip so you and he could go out in the fields packin some heat and come back with some gators and big snakes!!
I get down to Fort Myers a fair amount, Ralph...maybe we can hook up and have a couple of beers sometime. I think the new facility is going to be east of Treeline just north of Daniels...kind of between Gateway and I-75.
Interesting news about the Red Sox. In the years when our kids were in school, we took several spring break trips to Ft. Myers Beach. I saw a few Twins and Red Sox games at both facilities during the late 80s and early 90s. Now that I'm retired, I wouldn't mind going down to FL during spring training. I wonder what the Boss would say.......and I'm not referring to the Steinbrenners. :wink:
My Sis is in Jupiter fl every winter...I would love to go..I think the Cards and another team have training there. My bride of 54 years ( as of today) wont drive..I wont fly!!
