In the fall of 1962 I was starting my Jr. year in High School. I didn't know a molar from a bicuspid, didn't floss, thought it was cool to drive my dad's Dodge Dart because it had stick shift on the floor ( I don't think it had 4 gears though....no 4 on the floor). Your girlfriend snuggled up next to you and shifting into 3rd gear....oh yeah you know what I'm talkin' about! I didn't know anything about the Cornhuskers, I knew about the Sooners but that was pretty much it for the old Big 8. Terry
It was interesting to me that the 2nd place for consecutive sellouts was ND at 236 or something. Not sure when the streak ended. I wonder who's in 2nd place for active sellouts? A&M? VaTech?
A&M hasn't sold out a single game this year. The Irish have sold out their last 207 games and counting. They have sold out 240 of their last 241 games....lone non-sellout and the starting point for the current streak was 1973 Thanksgiving weekend game vs Air Force, the Students were out on break. In those days the capacity was 59,795 or something like that and the attendance that day was 57,235. Haven't scheduled a home game on Thanksgiving weekend since then..at least I can't remember one. I don't think even Texas has any sort of big streak going, they have sold out a lot of games but the years between DKR and when Mack Brown got rolling had a lot of good crowds but with exception of some big games (A&M) tickets were always pretty easy to get.
FWIW, I read that at the beginning of this week, the Purdue game had not sold out, which brings up an interesting ND stat. ND has played in front of sellout crowds in 72 of its last 81 away games and 216 of its last 248 games away from home.
1962 was a good year! Joyce and I were married on July 14th. I had been transferred to the the big city (Cleveland) with a national sales finance company. 1962 brings back some very good memories! Don
A&M rarely "sells out" in recent years. There are always about 1000 seats that no one wants for most games. The stadium expansion actually went beyond demand for the time (being proactive) and then the Fran years happened... Nothing will kill sales like that piece of history I choose to forget. :x
1962 - very important year.....went to my first Buckeye game in Ohio Stadium. We beat North Carolina 41-7 to open the season. I still remember it......not much mind you, but I definitely remeber the event. It was a big deal for - at that time - the little guy and his daddy.
Damn! You old farts can call me Junior, Kid or just Punk if you like. In 1962 I was in the 3rd grade at St. Anthony School in Dayton, Ohio. I remember my parents discussing the Cuban missile crisis. Corey wasn't even a twinkle in his pappy's eye.
1962 was a very significant year for me for two major reasons. I went back to the University of Florida after dropping out for four years. And Jeanne and I became engaged and were married the next year, 1963. Actually the engagement and marriage were the most important, but they two were pretty much tied together.
I set a record at St. A's that still stands today. In eight years I never had to buy my own lunch.... You got a problem with that?
Dude, Im telling ya. The other day, I even had a sore back and leg pain. of course, my fat ass have more to do with that than age. Who knows? BTW-Congrats Huskers. You should be proud.
