We have already talked about this a little bit and maybe a lot but it seems as more and more opinions offered on the upcoming season will have these two games as the best of the year: This from Sporting News: T1. UF at UGA-When it came down to it, I could not decide between the top two games. Personally, I think the winners of these two games should just go ahead and play for a national title as they probably are the four best teams in the country. But, with this matchup, doesn't a Tebow vs Stafford matchup just write itself? How about throwing in Moreno vs Harvin? This matchup will carry an SEC East title and should carry more. T1. OSU at USC-This is a nonconference September matchup of epic proportions. OSU, the team that has lost the last two national championship games versus USC, the team that has been conspicuously absent from the last two title games playing each other early on for an indication of who really is worthy of getting to that BCS National title game. Two QB controversies could arise as well: Boeckman vs Pryor & Sanchez vs Mustain. Wells vs Mcknight. I can't wait.
And now this from Sporting News also on an old topic ( my obsession : http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=418272

Keep bangin' that drum, big guy! No question the game will have huge implications for the season for both teams. Three years in a row we have traveled west for a huge game...it's cool...it's exciting. It's something Florida will never do. Me, I'm not scared...I'm proud...and looking forward to it win or lose.
Tennessee going West as well to play UCLA in the season opener. I love it when Gators and Dawgs talk about how their game will decide the East and not even give Tennessee a second thought. The last time that happened was 1998.
I never count Tennessee out. And no matter the talk Tennessee played for the SEC Championship last year while the Dawgs and Gators watched. I do like the Gator chances this year though.
Seems to me Florida traveled west for a huge game in early 2007.... In any event I am certain Tressel wouldn't trade his schedule for Meyer's this year and probably every year..... and most especially last year. Tom, I really don't think UT this year has the horses of the AP #10 preseason ranked Vols of 1998. I could be wrong but if UF beats UT this year I don't think the Gators will lose more games in the SEC than Tenn which would have to happen for Tenn to win the East at that point. Now Georgia might beat UF and win the East but Tenn is not set up as well as last year to overcome a loss to the Gators.
Sorry, that dog won't hunt... Schedule something with travel to somebody's home turf and I'll be impressed...hell, half our bowl games are on somebody's home turf and half of yours are practically home games (actually it's 70% in the last decade but who's counting?)...that's ok...it has to be that way, but... Frankly, I've not got no issue with Florida's schedule, but why you constantly rag on us for ours is beyond the pale...Jim Tressel two years ago played the #2 ranked team three times.
You brought up the schedule issue Stu. I commented on your "travel out west" knock on Florida and since that is itself a schedule issue I thought OSU's schedule was an appropriate target as well. Yeah Washington used to be a pretty good test but last year it didn't turn out that way and ultimately OSU beat not one top 20 team on their way to New Orleans. Pretty unusual in today's BCS world.
Read my edit, above...you snuck your post in first before I edited it. And I meant to say "I've got no issue with Fla's schedule"...not "I've got an issue..."...duh! :? (I've edited it now.) You have repeatedly knocked our schedule...own it...and here you post one more article ("your obsession") knocking it. "Pretty unusual" for every other contender to step on their crank to let someone in, too, but it happened...not our fault.
We had a lofty pre-season ranking in 1998 for losing Manning to graduation. Many on the Prodigy boards were counting a Tee Martin led Tennessee team out before the first snap of the football. Tennessee beat everyone they played that year. OK, Arkansas beat themselves but it was still a win for Tennessee. I just hope that everyone is as confident as you are that Tennessee will be down this year. That is when we play our best football.
In 1998 Tenn played 7-5 Alabama and 3-8 Auburn. This year Tenn plays at Auburn the week following the huge game with Florida. The only way Tenn wins the East is beat Florida and hope like heck the Vols don't don't lose as many as 3 very losable games after that at Auburn, at Georgia and at SC the week after Alabama. This seems to be much more of a daunting task for the Vols than it did in 1998 and I don't see it happening but if I were a Vol fan I would hope like hell for the best until it doesn't happen.
Amazing Stu how it's only early June and yet it is simple to find online sports articles written about Ohio State...Tressel....the USC game....and how they relate to the last two BCS performances and especially how it relates to the Big Ten schedule last year. These articles are obviously written by many different sportswriters at my request or insistence don't you think just to accomodate my obsession. When ESPN Gameday goes on and on about it you can bet it will be soley because of my email campaign to get them to cover the story....yeah....that's what it will be..... Actually Stu I didn't set out to diss OSU by posting the article but thought it was an interesting article on Ohio State and Tressel. The point I made before about OSU being relevant to college football is a real positive for Ohio State and that is why articles are being written and posted....not because of obsessions. If the Buckeyes truly sucked they would be relatively anonymous and mired in the obscurity of mediocrity. Then you could be really pissed.
What is truly remarkable is that in spite of the more than 100 schools, they never seem to write about anything else.....do you not find it extraordinary that the only things written about college football in the last 2 years is Ohio State, our 2 title game losses and how weak the Big 10 is.....absolutely dumbfounding I tell you. I think all readers on this board are in awe of your laser like editing capabilities and your willingness to share with us the most meaningful college football stories..... Thank God I'm a Buckeye.....otherwise, I'd have no college football news!
See the finish to my post above BT. I mean who gives a crap about say...Ole Miss or Minnesota? How many national articles do you see on those guys or on teams like theirs? Who wants to read about mediocre coaches and mediocre teams? If I found any on teams like that should I post them here because everyone wants to know? I don't think so.....and you won't be able to avoid seeing these kinds of articles on the Buckeyes this year unless you shy away from the media altogether and especially leading up to the OSU-SC game. How about just get over it.....
Your explanation that Ohio State, our most recent championship game appearances and our upcoming battle with another dominant program are the only topics worthy of discussion in the college football world is flattering indeed but unconvincing.....Dude, you have a clinical case. My advice is therapy.....here's my contribution. Confront it and enjoy and I wish you a speedy recovery! 8) MCG's love anthem to Jim Tressel!! Poll question of the day.....are any of these MCG in drag?!
Well BT...not only is it a national topic for discussion but it usually gets some interesting conversation started around here as well.
We're going into the lions lair to take him on...we will be and deserve to be underdogs...I love it! And in May, instead of getting credit for that we're supposed to listen to all the crap about what the ramifications are should we lose such a game...what nonsense. It's barely June, for crying out loud. Let's play the games out and let all the wannabees lobby for their credentials and diss the other guys' resumes in November.
One thing about Ohio State's resume this year that was lacking last year....they will either have a terrific top 10 road win or be in the Rose Bowl.....it's that simple.
This is exactly the same position that Texas was in in 2005, they had to go to Columbus to face Ohio State, and that Ohio State had in 2006 when they had to go to Austin to face Texas. In both cases the loser was not out of the Nat'l Championship race, that happened with later losses. Terry
