Dad say B minus at best. Columbus, NE OUTLAWS Baseball Club 3 wins 4 losses Chase Martin #2 P/1B Bats: L/R Throws: L Batting: AVG .400 BA/RISP .333 Pitching: 0-1-2 ERA 1.56 BAA .167 FPS .615 Fielding: FP .826
AJ, Does the 0-1-2 mean two no decisions? What does FPS mean? I'm sure I'll say "Duh!" when you tell me.
Aha! That .615 shows excellent control ....6 out of every 10 first pitches for strikes. Also the ERA and BAA at his level show consistency. Very nice, Dad. What age group is this?
I have a 15 yr. old grandson playing HS freshman ball and a 13 yr. old playing both school CYO and traveling team ball. I've seen a bunch of kids Chase's age so far and will see a bunch more before the summer ends. IMO this age range is a hitter's age. You don't see many pitchers in this age group who can keep hitters from hitting. If Chase can hold close to those stats on a consistent basis, he should be able to compete well. As JO'Co says, good LHPs are rare and highly sought after by coaches, especially in HS.
 Lefthanded pitchers are so rare, that MLB will take them smaller and slower than righties. If you're righthanded, MLB scouts normally won't touch you unless you're 6'3" and throw at least in the low 90's. With lefties there's a lower standard. They will take a good lefty at 5'9" who throws in the low to mid 80's. The reason is simple: most lefty batters can't hit lefty pitchers. Remember, only one in ten people are lefthanded and the offense runs counter-clockwise against a defense that runs clockwise...
I would have to give him better than a B-. But enjoy the ride with the kid, it will be over soon and he will be an adult.
