The kids 1st Midget FB game of the season is today. Plays for the Lincoln Police Team. Here's the link: http://www.lincolnmidgetfootball.net/ Utility player. Will see action at TE, WB, TB and QB On Defense: DE Jersey # 1 Here's the pump up video I showed him this morning.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuaDZLTjnBo&feature=player_detailpage
Union Bank 26 Lincoln Police 0 UGLY. Rodney King ugly. From the kickoff it was evident that Union bank was bigger, faster, and oh yeah...better. Chase WAS the backup QB until late in the 1st qtr when the starting QB was hammered by 3 union players and really rolled his ankle back pretty good. Had to be carried off the field. He's the starter now. He did pretty good considering that his team has no OL. These kids were getting blasted on every run prior to the injury. Then my kid made some good runs. Not to hard to do when he was probably scared shitless and that added a little speed to his step. Our coaches were completely unprepared for the game. Delay of game penalties, confusion on the defense, no heart or emotion. The only first down they had was when Chase turned the wrong way on the ISO and had to bootleg it. They did block a PAT once....bad snap I think. Evidently Pelini's kid plays for Union bank. I walked over to where the wife was sitting, and about 8 feet away he was sitting with his wife just watching the game. Crowd of people around him that knew who he was, but respecting that he's there as a parent. The wife thinks he's got a bigger snozze in person than on TV. The parents told us that we would see them there every Sunday...Dr. Tom also, I guess his Grandson plays. Didn't see the Doc this time. Anyway, the kid kept his chin up and fought as hard as he could, but union bank out-shined us BIGTIME. For the record, he didn't take hardly any snaps at all last week in preparation, so I think he'll be okay next sunday. He asked me what he coulda done better.....I told him you were too nervous to be a leader when your team needed one. I said we'll work on that. And no I didn't find a reason to talk to Bo.......I wanted to....
If he did not turn the ball over in his first outing, his future is bright. With his dad as a mentor, he can't miss.
AJ, Tough loss for a starter game, but sounds like the youngsters werre outnumered, but still put up a lot of grit and did not give up. If Chase stills has some confidence, he is a toughie and will survive. Things can only get better right?
wins and losses don't matter in youth sports, the question is of heart and character. It sounds like he showed both in spades. These kids will likely all wind up playing together one day, that's why I don't worry too much about all the Ws and Ls in youth sports. Even when the little man made a mistake, he got a 1st down. That says something right there.
