Interesting and several of these guys have a connection to the Gators. Will Muschamp at S. Carolina was fired by the Gators, and Chip Kelly at UCLA and Scott Frost at Nebraska were the two favored by most internet Gator fans after Muschamp was fired. Frost let it be known right away he was going to Nebraska and all attention turned to Kelly, even following an airplane that supposedly the AD and President took to Kelly's home to try to sign him. A lot of angst when he went to UCLA and our new guy Dan Mullen didn't get very good reviews by a lot of fans when we hired him. You would have thought the world had ended. He has won most over but some angst that he doesn't get more 5* recruits. He won me over when he got off the plan with a big smile and doing the Gator Chomp. 2020 Hot Seat Rankings: 11 college football coaches with their jobs on the line this season
Here's a follow up to the above article with all 130 FBS coaches ranked as to their job safety. 2020 College Football Hot Seat Rankings: Evaluating job security of all 130 FBS coaches
I agree with that Terry, we dodged a bullet. I don't know what Kelly's problem is but I expected much better from him.
I really think the hot seat ratings on Frost are way off. After the Pelini nuclear meltdown and debacle of the Riley years, a favorite son like Frost, who had great success at UCF, will be given time to rebuild Nebraska. If N has a rough season this year and they fired him, I suspect it would propel N fans into the world of loss of all hope. Just can’ t see Nebraska bailing on an iconic figure in Nebraska football lore this quickly.
I would agree with Bobda, I think they will give Scott Frost a very long rope. He's only been there 2 years now, and while in today's world so many schools are bailing on coaches in 2 or 3 years if the results aren't what they want, I expect Neb will give Frost the full 5 years to get his kids in the program and build something.
I agree about Frost and the article actually kind of put in a disclaimer on him. He was the number one choice of Gator fans when Muschamp was let go, and by far. I still see good things for him.
This was discussed on the morning show on ESPNU. They made a point that with these Ath Depts having budget crisis and most have cut staff and reduced salaries, that firing a coach with a big buyout is just not likely to happen. How do you cut salaries/jobs and then pay a coach 1 million + dollars to go away. Even though mostly those buyouts are not paid in lump sums, they are paid out over time.
