Granted catchers need to be smart about those plays at the plate, but I'm wondering now how Posey is going to handle 1) his instincts to block the plate and 2) plays at the plate in general. I mean will he be soft now and the Giants be on the short end of most of the plays at the plate.

Never heard of this edict before, unprecedented.

I read the article. I understand Boche's concern for his budding superstar, and I defer to his expertise as a manager and former MLB catcher that there are "ways to make the tag without putting yourself in jeopardy." I hope for Posey's sake that the effort pays off, because in the end, when faced with the same situation, the kid's a fierce competitor whose competitive instincts will prevail, likely causing him to do what is necessary to prevent the run from scoring. We'll see.

I'm neither a Giants fan nor a detractor. IMO Buster Posey's presence on the field is good for baseball. I hope he stays healthy and has a good year.
