.....regarding his seemingly illogical stubborness in keeping Jarrett Lee on the pine while JJ struggled at the Qb position as much as any I can ever remember watching. http://eye-on-college-football.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/34452581
Don't get it either AJ...... I met an LSU booster in Chicago last week at the Gibson's Steakhouse bar who had been at the game and he said the higher ups in Baton Rouge have called Miles out on the carpet about this "mystery".... Supposedly there were words between Miles and Lee during the week and that's why he sat and sat and sat while the most miserable Qb performance was rendered by JJ. Miles.....in spite of winning the SEC has shortened his rope over this it seems.
More static in the system from the BCS title game: http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2012-02-09/ex-lsu-qb-jordan-jefferson-blames-inept-bcs-championship-game-offense-on-play-ca Hmmmmmm......that won't make Les Mile's seat any cooler.
Here's the thing with Les Miles...... I believe the LSU faithful recognize that Les over the years has had the benefit of the lucky bounce on more than one occasion. The luck of being the only team probably ever in BCS title game history to get in the game with two losses in the year in which he won his only BSC title. The out and out luck of getting an extremely fortuitous bounce vs. UF in 2010 on the fake FG try or else a loss was certain that night. The zany plays he has called that most often seem to work luckily for him and then there are his outlandish actions such as the grass chewing etc. I believe they generally question the soundness of his coaching and then when he lays an out and out egg like the one laid vs. Bama in the 21-0 loss.....all the while eschewing using a back-up Qb who was sorely needed then the Tiger backers start to question even more. Again.....I heard this direct from a long time season ticket holder who was at the game in New Orleans and said he spent the entire second half "laughing" at Miles' stubborness and the futile play of Jefferson.
You have to put yourself in the position to catch the breaks and that comes from preparation, planning and on field decisions. LSU was not a great team. They had a good defense but a spotty offense. And yet they played for the NC. I don't even think they were the second best team at the end. That honor, in my mind, went to USC.
Bama was very well prepared and played well and most likely would have taken any and all comers that night in New Orleans. That said.....LSU's offense seemed to have taken a great step backward between the end of the season and the title game. It didn't help at all that Jefferson sucked so miserably and that Miles seemed frozen to inaction over on the bench.
I like Les Miles and his willingness to take chances. I don't know exactly what happened in that game except that Bama was the more complete team and won the game. If LSU doesn't want Miles as a coach I believe there are a lot of other schools that would.
The guy has a great record and a Nat'l Championship. It's hard for me to think of him as a great coach I guess because he has such a goof ball image.
