Yeah, I saw the interview with that kid...I'm pretty sure his SAT's match his weight....works well for the new conference though!!!!
On in the West... Cal, USC and Washington did very well as expected. The shocker out here is UCLA. New coach Jim Mora flipped all kinds of commits in the final days and hours to obtain an outstanding class. Wazzoo, ASU and Arizona also did well with new coaches... In our neighborhood, Upland High School sent a whole bunch of players to big-time schools, including both running backs...
I think that's true, it doesn't mean I have to like him though. I will say I don't seem to hear as much controversy about him now though. I don't know if that's because I don't hear as much about him since he's so far away, or if he's calmed down. Whatever, maybe Hayden has had a positive effect on him.
Given the restrictions Kiffin is working under, 15 is the max he can sign, he is doing a great job of running off guys who aren't in his future plans and reloading with fresh troops of very high caliber. Next year he could win a NC, or at least play in the Rose Bowl. After that he will still have a lot of good players but his overall numbers are going to be a problem if he has injuries. Still based on what he's done at USC I'd say we all underestimated him, based mainly on his record with the Raiders.
Nice article about Purdue's new recruiting coach and class. I'm normally not one to pay a whole lot of attention to recruiting rankings, etc. A lot of kids don't live up to their hype, and a lot of hype comes from who is looking at them. But it IS nice to be successful in landing kids that you are looking at. Purdue Signs From 13 States
Talk about power house high schools, Broward County schools St. Thomas Aquinas and Miramar sent 17 & 16 each to full scholly rides yesterday with most being Div 1 colleges. I totally concur, one example is Miami's 2008 class rated #1 that never won a bowl game and had a losing record in the four year span. Meanwhile Boise St rated #56 in some ranking had a 73-6 record for there span. High recruiting rankings only foam up the fanatics with expectations that can normally never be achieved. "Expectations" will bring you down every time.
Very nice posts, Stu and Ralph. The two of you should conduct a clinic for the whiny little girls in the ND group on how to approach recruiting. Ralph, I read somehwere that Miami did very well considering their NCAA issues.
If he's pi$$in' off Bielema, then he's off to a good start in my book. You won't find many people that get fewer xmas cards in the league than Bielema.....he's a weenie and just whining that the big tackle from Cleveland after whom he was lusting, decided to stay at home....
Well, he did get his team to the Rose Bowl. Methinks there's a bit of rivalry-fueled jealousy in that comment. TOK.... vs. weenie. LOL!
Sid, We probably had the best recruiting class in 86 years to be honest. Yeah the class was ranked in the top ten which as Stu mentioned is a great thing to get the kids your after. But Al Golden is going to be something special and accomplished an incredible feat with this class. With the executioner sharpening his axe ( He kinda looks like AJ in my opinion ) on the sidelines to cut off our head because of NCAA infractions he managed to pull off an incredible class. I watched the long press conference last night and he said it was pretty ugly going against the things other coaches were telling recruits. Death penalty, closing down the football program and other assorted ideas were thrown into the mix. Golden response was "boy it was tough" but I wasn't here during the infractions or any of the coaches or AD so take your shots now while you can because it will be the only time you'll be able to do it. My favorite thing about Golden is he reminds me of Jimmy Johnson in his early days with the exception that his love for football does not include giving up his wife and children in the quest to win. But Jimmy came in with a plan and that plan was to lay a firm foundation and then build upon it. Golden now that he has extended his contract will get this done. He gave up playing a bowl game this season and we will play with 80 scholarships this year instead of 85 in the effort to show the NCAA we are trying to penalize ourselves for mistakes made earlier. We'll see ??? By the way we recruited 33 yesterday with 9 kids on early enrollment. 26 of those kids were from the state of Florida... Florida - 26 (Dade/Broward/PBC - 15) Georgia - 3 Louisiana - 1 Texas - 1 Alabama - 1 Pennsylvania - 1
 What an incredible job of recruiting by UCLA's new coach Jim Mora. He's only been on the job for five weeks, but he managed to pull off a wonderful class of 25 preps + one JUCO for a total of 26. Included in the haul were such sought after players as: - Devin Fuller, New Jersey - Randall Goforth, Long Beach Poly - Ellis McCarthy, Beastie boy from Monrovia - Jeremy Castro, Vista Murrietta, Wowza. Saw him beat Damien and Upland - T.J. Millweard, A QB from Texas? - Jordan Payton, Oaks Christian verballed to USC, then to Cal, then finally to Washington. He signed with UCLA yesterday... Somehow Mora got half-a-dozen kids to flip to the Bruins in the final 48 hours and some of these players, like Payton and McCarthy are four-stars that everybody out here wanted. Who is this guy?
