Very interesting, all the Pac12 schools have significant Chinese (and Asian) presence in their student bodies. They feel they can and should have a presence in China for all of their sports. They are looking to start that with moving the 2013 Stanford/Notre Dame football game from Palo Alto to China. Personally I'm not a big fan of the NFL taking games to London and certainly don't think this is a great idea. But I'm sure the kids will think a trip to China is cool. While the Irish trips to Dublin have been popular with the fans, I've never really cared for them myself, but that's just me. Pac12 to China
Going to places like Dublin and China is boring. Give me Bloomington, Manhattan,KS, and Blacksburg, VA. All day long.
Maybe they are looking to be the preferred destination for Chinese athletes in the olympic sports. You guys get Mexico for Soccer, maybe you want Chinese gymnasts, track people, volleyball players, swimmers, basketball players (over a million 7 footers in China supposedly). Maybe with that you'll be selling Pac12 gear to a billion people...could be big bucks.
Geez, MCG's comments are pretty mild and not thoughts that other people don't have. Meyer definitely understands the rules and will use them in his favor. What's wrong with that? Nothing the way I see it. As far as the extra coaches, ok it may be common practice but there seem to be some Big 10 coaches that don't understand that. You got a good, and possibly great, coach who will understand the rules and if he is what he was when we got him will out work a lot of other coaches. Don't see where what MCG said was wrong.
Talk about topic drift...this drifted into the wrong thread! Bill, he didn't necessarily say anything wrong...but the implication was there that Urban Meyer was aggressively pushing the rules to the edge. We don't need to push the rules right now...we need to follow them. Ohio State (not necessarily just Urban Meyer) requested a waiver, which is standard operating procedure from what I understand. The NCAA granted it. It's no big deal (if indeed it is a commonplace occurrence, which the NCAA spokesperson said it was.) If the Michigan AD wants to stick in his two cents, that's fine...it just proves that Ohio State doesn't have the only athletic department that makes stupid pronouncements.
I've lost the thread here... <object><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HPY4s-p6vvk?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HPY4s-p6vvk?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
