Dave, Rumors still abound, but do not be surprised if Ohio State passes on any bowl bid! Gene Smith A D isissuing statements that the Board of Trustees may reverse. Time will tell. Don
Don I wonder if the B1G would allow OSU to decline a bowl game if they are eligible. A few years ago Syracuse tried to decline a bowl game, the Big East Commissioner said no way Jose'....we have contracts to fulfill and you would have a $$ impact on all Big East teams by not going. They went.
Terry, This may very well prove to be true. Rumor was that a loss to Michigan would result in a No vote by OSU. Not sure how things will play out at this point or who will coach if a bowl bid is accepted. In my opinion we have a PR nightmare on our hands.
Don, I would rather have your PR nightmare than the one at Penn State. And I do not mean that as a joke.
If Urban is going to be coach I am certain he wants the team to have those bowl practices whether he is there or not.
I do not think that OSU passes on a bowl bid, nor do I think they should. Who knows. But how hypocritical is it whenever a perennial powerhouse has a struggling season and talks about declining a bowl that is somehow "beneath" them. It doesn't seem to keep them from scheduling the Akrons, Appalachian States, Southeast Missouri States, etc., during the regular season.
Dave, Looks like your prediction has come true for the Gator Bowl! Fickell will be the game coach, as it should be. Urban will be busy putting his new staff together and recruiting. Don
I haven't heard much on Brantley but I assume he will be healthy.......for whatever that's worth. This UF team sucks pretty bad on offense. Our only chance is to have a stellar defensive performance. OSU should be about a 7 point favorite. I do think that Meyer's hiring may even out the motivation factor I was concerned about. Hey I predicted this match-up happening at least 6 weeks ago.
Brantley looks ready to go, but our DT Easley is out with a knee that will require surgery. The Gators have not had a losing season since 1979, this game could very likely end that streak. But this Gator still thinks our future looks bright.
Bill, Similiar problems here for Ohio State also. Injuries can certainly have a tremendous effect on any program, especially key positions. Hopefully both programs will have a better year in 2012!
