In Jax for T-giving and getting ready to head down to G-ville later for the annual hate party between the semi-holes and mighty Gators. Love the atmosphere for a game like this. I expect a pumped up bunch of Gator seniors to bring home the bacon tonight against a flawed nole team. UF 34 FSU 21
I'm very cautious about predicting a Gator win this season but I think we have a good chance. We are leaving for the game in about a half hour from Kissimmee. Go Gators.
Three interceptions thrown by Brantley already in the first half and the Gators are only down by 14. It's still early. Florida could very easily be down by twice that amount so that should be a rallying point.
Well Gator fans may take offense but the flawed team playing tonight is not the one doing the tomahawk chop....Pretty sad for the Gator D because they have played a pretty good game but the offense is passing out cyanide pills... Thank God Miami and Florida did not play this season because it would have been so ugly the network would have been obliged to air Heidi...
I flipped back and forth until I couldn't take it any more. The Florida offense got manhandled. The best I can say for their performance is: they looked much better than UCLA...
I didn't see the game, but FSU only had 7 1st downs and 95yds of offense....that is stinky bad how the hell did they win.
Dave, Bill, Is the problem for Florida this year a matter of talent or coaching? Just curious what you both think?
"Well Gator fans may take offense but the flawed team playing tonight is not the one doing the tomahawk chop.... " WELL....if FSU wasn't flawed on offense the Gators have a great defense then. 95 yards of total offense has to be a record low in this series. Don....UF has big time offensive problems and coaching has to be a part of it. Also, Brantley threw the worst picks of his spotty......mediocre career at UF. He'll never be called "Big Game" John and he will not play at the next level. [/quote]
Dave The reason for my response is you confidently or arrogantly stated how the Gator seniors were going to bring home the bacon against a flawed Nole team. "Both" teams were flawed last night in their play but the Gator offense brought it to another level last night. It's nothing personal just an observation. Looking at the bigger picture Don ask a great question but I would look at all division I teams from Florida which include UF, FSU, USF, UM, UCF and FIU. Has the talent level gone down from previous years or is it the coaching? Watching all the state teams play this year we are in the running for the teams with the most players with dreadlocks compared to other schools, I guess that counts for something.
Don, you would get different opinions from different Gator fans, but I will give you mine. First it is a combination of both coaching and players. The biggest factor is youth and a short roster. The Gators were down to about 70 scholarship players and 8 of them went out with injuries last night. I was happy with the defense last night, but in a nutshell the offense stunk. After the game Muschamp said we are a soft team. He's right about the offense. My biggest concern is the offensive line. Most of them will be back next season but that does not give me a big sense of confidence like it does on the defense. Our offensive players don't really fit what Weis wants. He does not want a running QB as part of the offense. He wants big strong running backs and a lot of receivers to be able to spread the ball. That gives me mixed emotions as to whether we might have done things different this year and won a game or two more. However I think building for the future is best all around. We have 2 big running backs coming in and a class that looks like a top 5 class but I don't think you get help on the OL from freshmen. I guess this is a 2-3 year more building process. I will say this about the coaches, I have confidence they can and will do the job in the long run.
Bill, Dave Thanks to you and Dave for your input. Things have not gone well for the Gators or Buckeyes this year. However, I am optomistic here as well.
I am not sure which running back you are referring to REC, the two we have verbal commitments from are Name Position Hometown Height Weight 40 Mike Davis Tailback Stone Mountain, GA 5-11 195 4.50 Matt Jones Tailback Seffner, FL 6-3 210
Yeah it was Matt Jones, he plays at Armwood in Tampa (Seffner). He is a very impressive talent, he will bring much to the Gators. http://www2.tbo.com/sports/prep-sports/2011/nov/26/1/spnewso4-armwood-rebounds-with-shutout-win-ar-327536/ Armwood is currently ranked #2 in the nation http://espn.go.com/high-school/football/team-rankings/fab50
Sorry REC, I didn't realize that Seffner was in Armwood. The Gators are very high on him. I look forward to seeing him next year.
A lot of people thought that might happen Ralph. I was kinda shocked Rainey and Brantley played so poorly. FSU presently is a very flawed team offensively and I agree with Bill the UF defense played very well against the noles. 95 yards........duh!
Bill I read someplace where Muschamp was shocked at the talent level that Meyer left him at UF. He's had a bunch of transfers as well since he took over. Your numbers have to be way down, are you guys going to take 25 players in this years freshman class?
