Nebraska lost the 2001 Big 12 title game by a whopping 62-36 and then somehow the polls allowed them to play in the BCS title game......which was ludicrous. The Harris poll sprung out of that and the computer rankings were tweaked and that type of scenario definitely would not happen again with those changes. Obviously Bama's highly contested small margin loss to the BCS #1 team doesn't compare.
As things stand now I would be completely content with a Bama v LSU title game. Those are the two best teams I've seen this year.
Corey, I am still not advocating that, but one of those teams is going to win the west and play for the SECC and if they win apparently play for the NC. Why the animosity for that? Having said that LSU and Alabama may be the best two teams in the country but as I've said before, under the current system, if you can't win your conference you shouldn't be able to play for the NC.
Well kp what we have here is the exception that the rules don't seem to cover. At this point there if Bama and LSU win out then there is no logical alternative to the rematch. Therefore we will most likely have the rematch. JO'Co, as far as no SEC team being in the championship game, it ain't gonna happen.
And it is in fact a logical finish this season if that happens whereas when Nebraska was pounded in 2001 by Colorado and yet the next day was selected for the Title game that was completely and utterly illogical. So the system is much improved. That said....I still agree with Herbstreit in that a "plus one" would be the absolute best scenario. Lets see who survives as two winners from the top 4 playing each other and let them go at it in Final. I can't understand the difficulty in implementing this.
Exqueeze me? If Georgia is the champion of the SEC... ...and Boise destroyed Georgia in Georgia... ...and Boise is a one-loss team... ...and all SEC teams have at least one loss... How do ANY SEC teams have an argument to be in the NC game over Boise or other one-loss teams? They don't.
Hey it's all about making the rules as you go along to fit the outcome you want. Remember when Miami lost early in the 1989 season and then beat undefeated ND late in the season. ...it was said then that head to head is what counted. OK...fine that actually makes a lot of sense. Two 1 loss teams that played each other the tie breaker is the game against each other..Fine. OK then fast forward to 1993 when there were 2 1 loss teams in ND and FSU, that year it was not the head to head competition that mattered it was who lost last. Desired outcome in '93 was to give Bobby Bowden a NC for his lifetime of achievment, Lou Holtz already had his NC.
Bama's loss would be "better" than any other one loss team because of how they lost....and who they lost to. LSU has a great body of work but if they flub up and lose to Georgia they don't deserve squat.....and will get just that.
So then... the final game should be Boise vs. Alabama? A team that didn't even win it's division should be invited to the finals?
When you have a QB that can tuck the ball and take off like that its makes you almost impossible to defend. Something we Irish fans know nothing about. 8)
