A difficult game to watch for me, but our defense is so inexperienced and weak this year, that we are pathetic to watch. Only real highlight of the game was the defense holding the Nits in four downs at the two yard line. I knew Penn State was going to be able to prevent us from scoing more than a couple of touchdowns. The Nittany Lions deserved the win and I thought they played well on a road game and under some serious bad publicity, none to be their fault. I think we should now impose a self bowl ban for this year and let Urban Meyer beging next season with a clean slate.
I really thought the Buckeyes would finish strong after a couple of the midseason wins seemed to show a maturing defense and an offense that had some potential. Better find a soln for Denard Robinson fast!
Don, I'll not comment on yesterday's game....we have more important business to take care of this week
Buckeye Terry, Agreed but I am not too optomistic after yesterday. Bobda is probably chopping his lips.
A battle of 6-6 erstwhile behemoths looms in Jacksonville with the Buckeyes carrying the all important motivation card. Motivation in bowl games is really significant so I think OSU even at 6-6 could be a buzz saw if Florida is the opponent.
Thought you might ask that. The team itself.....if left alone about it probably wouldn't care so much about beating Florida. But I think with a month to hear all about the 41-14 score in the media.....and most especially with the students and fans reminding the players that UF administered one of the most painful losses in Buckeye history a scant 6 years ago that the motivation factor will eventually burn and then UF would be in trouble.....if the two teams meet like I think they might. UF would not be similarly motivated as OSU and as I say....if one team manages to get motivated in a bowl and the other doesn't then it's all over. Witness Utah over Bama, Boise over Oklahoma, the you-name-it blowouts between two closely matched teams, etc.....it happens every bowl season. So I would rather UF play.....say......Nebraska for similar reasons.
Sorry, but I don't believe it is going to be meaningful to them at all.....there may be some small reminders but that was eons ago for a teenager and there is nobody left on this team that had anything to do with that and they frankly could care less - none of these kids have ever not won a big ten title, not beaten their arch-rival and not played in a BCS game - and the alums have gotten the revenge thing out of their system by virtue of the consecutive victories in hoops. The overwhelming discussion in the media and public leading up to the game will be: 1) how badly this team performed this year and good riddance to the kids that lead to JT's downfall, 2) as a result, how lame the bowl game that will invite them to play, 3) where the lame duck coaching staff is finding new jobs and most importantly 4) Who is the new coach and staff......everything else will be mere trivia.....if these kids do anything but show up and mail it in, I'd be dumbfounded. I could be wrong, but I doubt it
I'll go with BT's senario. Coaching staff changes alone usually result in bowl loss, not always, but more often than not.
I agree with BT's 1 thru 4 but I don't think two regular season BB games rids the memory of two National Title losses.....helps.....but not rids. And BB is BB....football is football. I think as a Florida fan I would enjoy seeing UF beat Nebraska because of what happened in 1995 but yeah....do these kids really care......not too likely. And when both teams are mediocre it takes away from anything that happens on the field. But just to be safe I would rather UF play Nebraska because there is always the chance that the Gators could get seriously out-motivated by the Buckeyes and I don't care to see it if it happens.
I guess things just must be different down there..... In Columbus the other issues surrounding the season, players, coach and the program would be so significant that they would overwhelm all else.....as I said, everything else would be trivial. To put things in proper perspective, there is virtually zero energy in Columbus in the M game this week.....and if ever there is a team that motivates, everybody else will forever pale in comparison to those people up north......
Understood. If you can't get energized about the TUN then what can a Buckeye get excited about? Would be a quite interesting twist though if Urban was hired before the Gator Bowl.....and he probably would be if he was going to Columbus.
