That's everywhere now, 7 year deal to make him the highest paid coach and he supposedly will be given a budget to allow him to hire the best asst coaches in the country a veritable all-star coaching staff. Some of the names though that are being tossed around are sort of head scratchers.
Herbie? Spielman? great buckeye names for sure but never coached before have they? Jon Tenuta? I mean when he was on Charlies staff he was terrible, he absolutely wouldn't recruit and his answer for everything was BLITZ and then BLITZ some more.

Anyone that likes rumors, certainly can not pass up on this rumor. I was hoping none of my Skybox fans would actually comment on this.

Oh well one can spend a great amount of time pursuing this on a cloudy day!

This rumor is running wild.....it's everywhere at a fever pitch unlike any I can remember. We'll see where it goes.....

Re: Spielman....he was the son of a very successful high school coach and had a stint as the head coach of the Columbus Arena league team - they were terrible. That said, I'd have no problem at all having Spielman as LB coach...in fact he'd be my first choice just ahead of our current LB coach - Mike Vrabel.

Herbstreit......they're buddies, he played the position and Urbie would be calling the shots anyway....I'd be OK with it, but he's got a pretty good gig now. Tough to see him giving that up.....

Tenuta - he's a native Columbus guy, spent 5 or 6 very successful years as DB coach under Cooper on some very good football teams. Recruited and developed some great great DBs during his tenure ..... Shawn Springs, Antoine Winfield just to name a couple....if he can repeat that, I'd be all about it.....

Urbie, Herby and Spiels hmmmm....I suspect they'd be a fairly decent on the recruiting trail.

I'm still on the fence re: Urbie.....if I believed that his health would hold up and allow him stay longer than a year or two, I'd welcome him with open arms....my concern is that the pressure would be more than he could bear and we'd be back to square one.....a big risk and I would hate to see that happen.

I am a big fan of Meyer and always wished he was coaching under the Dome but if pressure was a factor in his leaving Gainesville I don't think he will find Columbus ( or South bend ) very therapeutic.

But since the Buckeyes are #1a team, I guess I can't lose here!

Being an assistant coach couldn't compare to that gig I wouldn't think which is why some of this rumor at least is bogus I believe.

I too believe the pressure of Ohio State would not be what Urban wanted.

That said......he does like to win and hates losing so his chances of that happening in Columbus are pretty good. I just don't know where he could go to avoid pressure but still have a good program to work with.

How about UCLA? Good weather and a good talent pool.

Urban is doing the Michigan game and was asked point blank about the rumor. He denied even being offered any job.

I saw that too Gip...sounded pretty scripted to me. Said he hasn't accepted nor has he been offered. That doesn't tell me anything meaningful. That statement would still be accurate if there was an agreement that he would accept an offer that would be forthcoming at the end of the season.

We'll see how it all plays out....

If he takes the job I wish him luck. However I would also be concerned about his future well being.

The denial certainly left wiggle room.

    Me too.

Bad news for fans of the maize and blue.

Meyer was deadly when it came to beating UF's chief rivals.

Also....he is a great recruiter who now has Penn State out of the way like no Ohio State coach before him......and THAT is a big WOW!!

Hey....truly us Gators don't feel like Meyer owes us anything.....he was phenomenal in his 6 years and took us higher then even Spurrier did and he managed to put a licking on his home state team in the process for all the marbles.

He's a winner come home to roost if the deal happens.

It will be fun to watch and while I'm certainly no fan of Ohio State I am a big fan of Meyer so I hope he succeeds in a huge way.

Has the NCAA made a final decision regarding penalties for OSU? If not, it might be that Mayer is waiting to see what the NCAA does before signing on the dotted line.

If he does go to OSU, it will cause emotional meltdowns all over AA but so be it. Alabama rose to the challange of competing with a Meyer coached team and given Michigan's resources, I think a Michigan team coached by Hoke will have the ability to compete with a Meyer coached team.

Mo, one difference between the present situation and Florida is that when Meyer became the HC of the Gators, FSU and Miamai were already in decline whereas Michigan is on the uptick with Hoke. But, with Penn State cratering and Meyer's recruiting ties in the South and the West and talent pool waiting for his nets in Ohio and Pa, the thought of him as the Bucks HC is scary.

Still have not heard their final decision.....most expect the ruling to be delivered soon. Probably the day before the press conference announcing his hire.....

Speaking of Urban and his offense, we do have a young QB that would probably be very effective in his scheme - likely for three more years.

I wonder if Urban will still go with his Read/Zone offense? With Braxton Miller you certainly have a QB who is ideal for that offense. I wonder if you will have a hard time recruting top QB's in the future since kids have seen how Tebow has had to struggle with his passing in the NFL. The offense does nothing to prepare a kid to play in the NFL, which hot shot young HS QB's all want to do.

It will be interesting to see who makes up Urbans staff, he drew heavily on his ND connections for his first staff at UF. Mattison was with him at ND, as was Dan Mullen and Charley Strong and Addazzio. Those guys have all moved on and he won't be able to bring them into his new staff.

UF was clean as a whistle with the NCAA also and the Gators were stocked with quality players that the Zooker recruited.

JT wasn't exactly a slacker when it came to recruiting, there should be a good bit of talent on that OSU team.
