Not shocking that more victims are coming forth, as JO'Co pointed out this isn't a condition that one aquires with advancing age and/or retirement. He's been a pedophile a long time.

    "victim of a closed-mouth generation"

I find that to be a woefully inadequate excuse when it comes to the severity of what occurred.

Thanks TOK....it's just a terrible situation and an emotional issue for many, myself included.

Let me ask you this.. How many of them stood up?

How many of them stood up to protect the children? How many stood up to protect that man? How many Terry.

You can tell me Penn State stands for one thing, I've heard it all my life. What I've seen is quite another. That isn't to say that every member of the Penn State family condones these actions unequivocally. What I am saying is that we've yet to see proof of any of them standing up to stop it. Where you decide you want to draw that line between blindness, ignorance, tolerance and condoning is for your own soul.

What is clear to a good many of the rest of us on the outside looking in is that... well.. read the article I posted today. That pretty much sums it up.

Corey, there is another way to look at the PSU following. There are many stages one goes through when presented with news like they have suffered through recently.

Denial is one of those stages. For people "on the outside looking in", there is no denial stage. We are not losing anything like they are. They are losing the faith they had in the people running the program. Denial is a healthy stage and must be given time. You can't force them into bypassing that stage.

Anger is another stage. When they start to leave the denial stage, then they will be more in line with what you believe you should be seeing at this point. Let them have the time necessary to get to the point that you are and I think you will be happy with their reaction.

Let me pose this scenario and I'll start with "I wouldn't believe this could happen either":

Let's say that news came out that this Sandusky incident, or long series of incidents, was actually James O'Connor. I would think that you are close enough to that gentleman that your first response would be outrage toward the messenger. Next, you would be in denial. After all, you have known that gentleman all your life. You couldn't believe that this gentleman could have done such a hideous act.

Give the PSU people time to get through the stages that you yourself would go through if the scenario was different.

My apologies to JO'Co. I just had to pick someone close to Corey to make a point.

You weren't raised in our family, or been paying attention, if you don't already know the level of confrontation that would take place ASAP.

I understand that most people weren't raised to always do the right thing and be openly confrontational. I get that. I don't mind denial or even anger to an extent.. I also fully understand the stages of grief. At the moment, we're being asked to put the stages of grief of the Penn State family above those of the victims.. Sorry, you don't get that.. not when something this atrocious took place over such a prolonged period of time.

You are drastically short selling my critical analysis of these events. What I fear in these next few months will be the media/PR machine just smoothing things over. If not for a single Washington Post article and a follow up blog posting by a sports writer, how many people would even know about the protester outside of Beaver Stadium?

BTW, that's still not answering my question.... How many acted? It's the answer no one wants to face.

I thought, as simplistic as it was, one of my life long good friends had the best solution to this. He's the son of a coach who coached everything from high school to the NFL to the USFL.. I smiled when he gave me his response, because quite frankly, it reminded me of his father...

His response to me was 'You fire everyone with a key to the gym and start over with honor.'

That's what Penn State needs to do.. Anything less is simply not acceptable.

I guess I still believe too heavily in the premiss that people are innocent until proven guilty. The accused molester has been removed from the situation. The innocent victims are out of immediate danger. Why do we not allow due process before we lynch everyone in the program?

Once it is proven that somebody knew, deal with that person. I'm just not into vigilantly justice. The mob that formed at PSU was just as wrong as a mob that would have captured Joe and lynched him. Both need to allow it to play out in court

Right now, Tom, the primary information relied upon by people is the grand jury report which was supposedly “inadvertently” published due to a "computer glitch". However, any transcripts of the grand jury testimony have not been released.

McQ, in contrast to what is stated in the report, indicates that he did stop the alleged assault and did report the incident to the police although it is unclear whether the police he talked to were the university police or municipal or state police

    http://www.mcall.com/news/breaking/mc-penn-state-scandal-mcqueary-20111115,0,1687969.story

What is also unknown is if the police were informed about the incident by either McQ, what the police did in response to this information. Moreover, if Paterno was aware that McQ had contacted the police, there would be no need for P to report it since he, in contrast to McQ, was not an eyewitness to the event. Given this uncertainty, I agree that is too early make final judgments about blame and culpability re the 2002 incident. Another new kick to the case is that the child may have been 16 rather than 10 which is the age of consent in Pa although I do not know if Pa.'s law at that time increased the age of consent to 18 if the other person was over 25 or in a position of authority which is the law in many states.

One thing that is certain is that Sandusky's lawyer adds yet another bizarre twist to this horrible story:

There's a mob to lynch, or even fire, Paterno? Not in Happy Valley there isn't.

I guess the issue with that boils down to the nature of what took place. You know that McQueary is saying that he went to the head of campus police about this? It's pretty clear now why some people were fired and some people were charged.

God help me, I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Barry Switzer.. There is no way. I don't know anyone who has ever been in the business at all, let alone for an extended period of time who will tell you different. The best defense offered for Joe to date is Coach K's 'he's from a different time.'

at some point in time, you forfeit that..

Maybe a little bit of payback on Switzer's part considering JoePa's comment years ago that he did want to retire from college footbal and leave the sport to the Sherrills and Switzers of the world.

I have not read any coments by Sherrill about the situation but he might claim that he would have done to Sandusky what he did to that poor bull before Miss State played Texas.

I believe the Board of Trustees was in Happy Valley. The decision for his immediate dismissal was unanimous.....

And for the record, I agree that you fire everyone with a key to the gym.....and the majority of Nits with whom I've spoken also agree. That said, fire them all and what percentage of "Penn State" does that represent? Infinitesimal.....

The notion that the entirety of what Penn State is has been destroyed or can even be characterized by the outrageous actions of a small few in relative comparison is absurd. To define Penn State by a small circle of coaches and administrators who failed their obligation to those kids and society is so ridiculously short of the mark it's just not worth further discussion.....

It will suck to be them for some time, but they will go on educating, they will go on researching new cures and innovations, they will go on healing, they will go on legislating and governing, they will go on judging, building, managing, discovering, fighting and defending all across this vast world of ours and the sick, twisted, irresponsible actions of a very few misguided men is not going to stop their good deeds from continuing to be good no matter how you want to spin it....

Heard on the radio coming in to the office this morning that JoePa transferred ownership of his home to his wife for $1.00 just days before this scandal broke.

That's the headline on the Yahoo front page. Joe's camp is saying that it's merely an estate planning strategy, his wife is only 71 (didn't know Joe was a craddle robber!). But it certainly does come at a curious time.

More likely explanation is that Joe could see this coming and probably got updates on the progress of the investigation by the Grand Jury.

Sounds like a basic estate planning action....I did the same with our house the last time we updated wills/estate plans. I kept the debt and momma got the assets! What a deal for me.....

I was in the process of writing my reply when you posted the above TOK....it is widely-used estate planning action.....

It's a good idea to update those kinds of things whenever you move to a new state.....laws can vary widely and it's wise to have a plan crafted specifically for your state of residence. I'm not an expert in such things, but I would expect that the legal minds on board here would agree.....

Seeing rumours now that Joe's statue at the Stadium is going to be removed.
