Jimmy Clausen The Super 25 starts with Hoover Ala at #1. When I look at that list, it's the same high schools that are always on the list for the most part. Terry
Doesn't it go back to something his brother Casey said about Georgia? It seems like you never liked Casey either.
The front page of ND Nation lists the 2-Deep chart for Georgia Tech and there are nine freshman on it, including Sam Young starting at RT. What a great message to recruits: If you're better than what's on board, you'll play.
I know Georgia Tech is having a whale of a recruiting year. As a Dawg fan I hate to see them do this well in state. I have no idea how this post ended up here? Mods please remove this from the thread. Sorry.
I hope all of you ND fans fare better with Clausen than Powlus! One thing in your favor is Coach Weiss. Watch out for the Yellow Jackets! Don
Don, with due respect for your educated opinion, I must correct a misconception which exists among many both inside and outside the ND family. Ron Powlus wan an excellent QB for ND whose career was hampered by unrealistic expectations and occasional injuries. The knock is that he could not win big games. Of course, the entire world knows about the Beano Cook prediction before he ever set foot on campus. During his 4 years at ND he always gave 110% on the field, and he never complained or got in trouble. Every game at ND is a big game. If we lost when Powlus was the QB, it was his fault. If we won, it was because it was expected (which is always the case at ND). If you want to denigrate Ron Powlus' legacy in any way, however unintentional, you're going to have to go through me. Ask Gip. As we all know, Gip's not shy about expressing his negative opinions about Powlus. Gip is a good friend of mine, and I have the utmost respect for him and his opinions, but I've taken him on in this matter, and I'll take on anyone else who does not accord the young man the respect he earned for his 4-year effort and his contribution to ND football. Other than that, isn't it a beautiful day?
I do believe gipper has felt the heat of Sid's flame with regards to Ron Powlus. But that's all in the past, I hope. Ron's legacy is what it is, he didn't accomplish what he came to ND for, and that was to win a NC. Most don't believe he was ever the same QB after he was injured as a freshman. That and it didn't help that his freshman class was probably the last class that Lou recruited that had Notre Dame level talent. Recruiting fell off after that and become sporadic. But Ron did win some big games, he beat the Keyshawn Johnson lead USC bunch in what I personally think was one of his best games as domer and he also beat Texas twice. I'm personally glad he's back at Notre Dame and hope he works his way to successfull career in athletics on the other side of the ball. Terry ps. Sid was the guy who guaranteed me that the Reds would fade!!
Sid, Certainly no disrespect intended, but the media protrayed him in a much different light. I apoligize if I opened some old wounds. Ohio State has had more than their share of media misresentation as well. Don
Sorry, Don. How could you know that you would be pushing the buttons of one of the Skybox's more "reactionary" members"? You are right on target in describing the media as the source of the issue. I promise to recognize that indisputable fact in the future. Of course, I still must await and endure the Gipper's response, to which I will reply, "Thank you sir. May I have another." Boy, did I call that one wrong! I'm glad I did. As a perennial fan of the underdog, I hope they can pull it off.
I'll risk the wrath of Sid here. I always felt that Ron Powlus careeer never measured up to the hype because of Lou Holtz. I don't think Lou ever knew what to do with Powlus who obviously was a pro style QB with a cannon for an arm. But Lou insisted on maintaining his offense with the option always in the background and a lot of roll out. That was not Powlus's style and he suffered for it. I am a huge Lou Holtz fan but I think he botched Powlus and never too kadavnatge of his talent to the fullest.
LOL! I'm just a harmless old coot who has certain buttons in my life that occasionally get pushed, causing me to blow harmless steam. George, I completely agree with your assessment. Lou's optimal type of QB was Tony Rice. I also know from my son's experience that Lou's loyalty to his players was unshakeable. The combination of his preference for the option offense and Powlus' natural style was doomed from the outset. I also agree with Terry's assessment. Both of you have a gift that I lack - the ability to look objectively at all things, even those near and dear to your heart, like ND football. My issue is laying it all on Powlus and denigrating his contribution to the history of the program, even though it was short of expectations.
LOL! Spoken like a true brilliant lawyer. When you have your prey cornered, let him do the talking. LOL!
