A lot of chatter today that QB Gunnar Kiel is already a silent committment and soon to be an early enrollee. This is expected to generate some very good follow up committments if true.
Gunner <r>If this turns out to be true it would be GREAT! This kid on his highlight videos looks like he would be terrific in NDs spread offense. Very athletic, great arm and has wheels enough to be a run threat now and then. <E></E></r>
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Exactly.<br/> <br/> I'm really hoping to see more of Hendrix before the season is over.</r>
Kiel's team, Columbus East, plays Indy Cathedral this week in the Class 4A semi-final. It will be by far his biggest test to date. Because I know nothing about his team, I can't predict the outcome, but Cathedral will be favored.
In the HS game I mentioned above, Kiel will be facing a ND 2012 recruit who is a DB for Cathedral, John Turner.
I watched the Cathedral-Columbus East game tonight on TV. Cathedral completely dominated the game, winning 62-7. The only thing I can say about Kiel is that Mark Herrman, the game analyst, really liked his live arm and poise. He showed reasonable accuracy, and several of his throws were dropped by his receivers. When he tried to run, he was swarmed by Cathedral defenders. Based on what I saw, I would not characterize him as a dual threat QB. I'm sure the recruiting experts have assessed his talent accurately, and if Bama, Oklahoma, ND and others are after him, he must be significantly better than he was able to show tonight.
How did Turner look? He's a recruit that a lot of Internet Irish fans do not think we should have offered. Catherdal must have a heck of a team to beat another playoff team that badly.
As I noted before.. ESPN covered that super QB camp this summer. One of the guys they hyped the most was Keil, but he was an afterthought a few days in. Again, that doesn't mean much but he didn't seem to be on the same level with a lot of these other guys.
Kiel was highly rated in that Elite 11 QB camp as well. Looking at Tommy Rees he has to be thinking I could possibly start there from Day 1 or at very least by midseason.
No he didn't. I don't believe he was even selected in the final 11. Per this article: http://rise.espn.go.com/football/articles/2011/07/22-Elite-11-announcement.aspx?pursuit=Football Also........ Like I said... he didn't look like a bad QB but he certainly didn't seem to be of the same caliber that the others were.
Kiel Elite 11 He is currently #15 on the Rivals Top 100 and the #2 QB behind James Winston in the top 100. He is the #1 Pro Style QB on Rivals. Winston is the #1 Dual Threat QB. Of course all of this is jut speculation till he gets on the field in college and actually proves it. We all remember Ron Powlus was not just the #1 QB he was the #1 player overall.
That article you posted is from the start of the camp. I'd highly recommend watching that show. Not that it is anything definitive but you can see he isn't in that top caliber of QBs right now. The posts I made above were the final 11 selections. I'm not making this up, that's straight from ESPN who was hosting it. He didn't make the final 11. He didn't win the top mark. He wasn't the MVP. He was out classed.
