I don't really get how that's bingo but the comments in each square are worth reading!! BTW: I see that UGA has suspended three RB's, the "inside" sources say that they all failed a drug test speculation is that Richt knew before the Gator game but decided to let them play and suspend them for the New Mexico game this week. Nah surely he wouldn't do that, would he?
Kiffin apologizes ...sort of... what an ass. Kiffin Apology BTW after watching the ND and Stanford games....I'm thinking Kiffin might not be a doofus of a coach...still and asshole though.
I have always said I am realistic about the Gators' relevancy to the college football world. After the ass kickings by Bama and LSU I have cared less about bad calls in the Auburn and Georgia games or at least with those calls that maybe could have gone the Gator's way instead of to their opponents and also I care less about what Richt may or may have not done about these players and when he knew it. As a collective group us Gator fans are not accustomed to the mediocrity we have been displaying lately so things like bad calls and controversial coaching decisons do not mean as much as they normally would if UF was in typical pursuit of an excellent season. Oh well.......always next year.
Are Gator fans still on board with Charlie and Muschamp? Or are there cracks in the support. There really shouldn't be, they are trying to completely change the offensive setup with players recruited for the Read/Option. How is recruiting going this year, that often becomes what fans focus on with a new coach, getting "his" players in place.
Sure there are some cracks in the support....some rumblings.......but none are serious because all realize you have to give it time. Thing is.....I don't know how this will turn out because even Ron Zook beat highly ranked teams early on in his tenure and throughout his 3 year reign actually. His problem was continually losing to teams that he shouldn't lose to. To that end if we do not beat Vandy this Saturday it will definitely put Muschamp in a hole.....with the fans.....and with Foley because a losing season....which UF has not had since 1979......could be in the offing. And Vandy....while very much improved.....should NOT beat the Gators on homecoming Saturday. Otherwise I think recruiting has/was going extremely well but I just don't know for sure how the losing has negatively affected it so far.
USC is inelligible, so that would leave Oregon or Arizona State... There's still a lot of football to be played out here. Stanford still has to play Oregon and Notre Dame...
As for Kiffin, no he is not a bad coach at all. Hatred at Tennessee for him aside... they are forgetting that without even playing a down he had managed to troll every single important stoic figure in the SEC including Urban Meyer. The one who nibbled but didn't bite was Saban. All that to mask the fact that he was dealt a very short deck by Fulmer and would be fielding a team with lots of issues. Now, he did screw Tennessee over. The asshole factor on Kiffikins can never be looked past. He's an asshole... but he's a very good young coach who is a lot smarter than people give him credit for at times. He is 'big picture' guy who realizes that modern college football goes beyond the X's and O's. He's a recruiting machine who has a very solid grasp on the psychology of motivation. Other guys his age are still cutting their teeth as coordinators or at the mid-level MAC or DIAA schools. The scholarship reductions are going to hit him really hard, but don't be surprised to see him go after fewer skill people and place a higher emphasis on recruiting interior lineman and defensive front 7 players. Still, the dude is an asshole. As for Georgia, what I found surprising is that they had 3 RBs on the team? The reason their super freshman had to play in the opener against Boise is that there was no one left. Did they somehow get 3 guys back? Is their super freshman one of the suspended?
I agree Corey, Kiffin may get a monster OL class if things fall right for him this year. I think that USC will continue to get 5* type of players just a lot fewer of them. I'm sure Kiffin will sell them that due to roster size they will play right away, and he won't be lying. He will still field a team with talent at every position it's just that they will be thin and not able to deal very well with injuries.
Terry, You are correct. I've often wondered (watching AL and others) struggle through probation, why they give into the lure of chasing all those 5 star sports car skill guys? Where those teams wind up losing or being hurt is along the line and the defensive front 7. Just the city of LA itself is loaded with skill players. As you astutely noted, even his lying reputation can't be doubted because he can tell a kid 'you will play WR/QB/RB/DB for me next year and he's not lying.. that kid will. Where you need to stock the cupboard is along the lines. That's where the game is won/lost and that's where you suffer the most attrition. Kiffikins is a smart guy. Look for him to stockpile OLs and DL/LBs with his scholarships and lean on legacy's (cough, cheating, cough) to fill the rest. Also, he's an asshole.
He inherited an absolute nightmare situation and was hung out to dry by Al Davis... That being said.. He had a winning record his only year in the SEC at Tennessee (7-6), and that was inheriting an near empty cupboard from Fulmer. He inherited the sinking ship at USC with players transferring out and sanctions coming down... and went 8-5. If I wanted to be a Kiffin about it, I could say 'he's never had a losing season as a college football head coach'.. and he's 36 year's old.
Just wondering, I mean he may be a great coach but as far as I can tell, he hasn't done much to show that. Of course, if he stuck around some place and recruited (legally) then maybe he could prove it. :?
KP, With the win Friday, he's assured of another winning season. Even if they lose out the rest of the way, which won't happen, they'll have a winning record. He's an asshole. There's nothing I like about the guy, but that doesn't mean he can't coach or recruit. Spurrier was once considered a 'young gun' coach who took Duke to the ACC title. He was nowhere near as young as Kiffikins is. The guy is building experience.
