Bob Toledo fired at Tulane today. There was a time that his star was rising at UCLA, then I think he got nailed for some problems with compliance. Has been pretty much down hill for him since then.

Trivia question from Ivan Maisel not so long ago was which coach with a losing record has the most wins?

Bob Toledo, at 76-97 at the time

Of note was Mike Price, who was only 2 wins above .500 at 169-167 that with a bad season at UTEP would change the answer.

He is a lot like Charlie Weis: an offensive genius, but no head coach.

Bobda will be happy to learn that Gholston's conduct in the UM game is being thoroughly reviewed by DAntonio and will be forwarded to the B10. I am assuming that it will be so thorough as to not be ready for review by the B10 till after he plays vs Wisconsin!

Bobda, I am an MSU alum and your take on Gholston is correct. He is ready for the NFl except for being handicapped between the ears. I don't remember how many yards his team was penalized because of him. The team could have been called for obvious taunting in the end zone, also.

Well the BIG suspended Gholston, Coach D did not defend Gholston, but said "William Gholston is a tremendous and extremely caring young person. In the heat of the moment, he momentarily lost his composure. Football is an emotional game of split-second reactions. It was an unfortunate incident. We look forward to his reinstatement.".

William Gholston said: "I deeply regret momentarily losing my composure late in the third quarter of last Saturday's game against Michigan. Although provoked, my response was inappropriate.

    Gholston Suspended

Out of his three "inappropriate" actions, the punch was the most minor. I thought the twisting of Denard's fasemask was the worst one although Denard probably provoked it by allowing himself to be tackled.

Water under the bridge. Lloyd and I will be munching on garlic dill cheese curds this Saturday eveningg and pulling for the Badgers.

My mistake. I guess it was just RR who denied it happened and refs who didn't see notin'.

He was suspended, by the B10. RR didn't think it was a big deal.

Now to tell you the truth, I have always heard that a lot of stuff goes on in those pile ups, punching nuts, fish hooking mouths, poking eyes, spitting in facemasks...just usually isn't caught on camera.

OK Thomas got flagged and so did Gholston. Two of these things belong together one of these things is not the same.....

TOK, RR claimed it was not a punch but that Mouton was simply trying to untangle his arm from the ND player's grasp. D'Antonio, in contrast to RR, at least had the common sense and honesty not to deny that an event occurred when there is video clearly showing that it did. (To be fair, though, RR’s teams, I thought, conducted themselves better on and off the field than the Carr teams of his later years which seemd to have more than its fair share of Prima Donnas and worse.)

Any sport should act when a player's conduct is outside the rules and done to deliberately injure another player. The NFL has made a serious effort to clamp down on thuggery and actually seems ahead of the curve on this when compared to college football.

But, dirty play seems to be acceptable in sports so long it produces a positive result. A lot of nice obituaries were written about Al Davis and most of them mentioned his trademark motto-Just Win Baby-which translated means, I think, that if you have to snap a guy's cervical spine to win, so be it. Losers get shunned and derided for losing and winners become our heroes. The question whether the loser played fairly and within the rules and the winner cheated is perceived as a question posed only by losers as a way to excuse their failure.

But, Al did not do so well his last few years so maybe someone is keeping tabs on the bad guys and inflicting cosmic retribution. Something like that seemed to happen today in Libya
