    re: #3
Yes. The ruling was that he had control of the ball in the field of play first, then touched the pylon second, then came down out-of-bounds third, which is correct. You usually see this with running backs who race for the pylon and touch it as they sail over it landing far out-of-bounds. In the earliest days of football, you had to literally touch the ball down in the endzone. This was later revised to breaking an invisible plane. The plane became more visible when they added flags in the corners, and today they use the sponge pylons.

    re: Air Force scores 33
I'm not worried about it. Kelly emptied the bench. There were players in that game that I never thought we would see get on the field, like 3rd string center Bruce Heggie. The AF scored zero in the 3rd quarter and 17 against the reserves in the 4th.

    Other notes:
-Cam McDaniel is much more physical than I expected. This kid is a real running back. Like Robby Toma, a lot of people thought that McDaniel was just an afterthought in recruiting to fill in the roster. Nope. He's a real ballplayer.

-This freshman class is the greatest thing that I've seen at ND in a long, long time and the class ahead of them is great too. Kelly's staff is so good at recruiting that I don't even look at the "star system" anymore. If Kelly's staff says they can play that's good enough for me.

-Bennett Jackson is more than just a track sprinter. He's becoming a wicked hitter out there and he's aways around the ball.

-Riddick still worries me. He's great with the ball in his hands, but the problem is getting it there. Sometimes he drops it or juggles it. Other times, he's not open, but he's around other receivers. That means somebody has run to the wrong area...

-On Saturday, all three kids who played for Ethan Johnson at DE were true freshmen: Aaron Lynch, Chase Hounshell, and Troy Niklas. All three teenagers are much bigger than he is, and he's big!

    - Niklas lined up on kickoff teams against his brother, who played for AFA. I wonder what USC did to piss off the Niklas family? They even named him "Troy" and he goes to Notre Dame? Where's the next one going to go? UCLA?

Riddick is electric with the ball in his hands, has been that way since he was a freshman RB. But what makes a great WR is a guy who the QB can trust to be where he is supposed to be all the time, not some of the time. And he has to run those routes like his is the primary reciever even if he's option #4.

He wouldn't be the first kid who was electric with the ball in his hands to fail because he didn't, couldn't wouldn't, whatever do all the other things you need to do to be a great WR.

Terry, this is why Golden Tate is not on the field for the Sea Hawks. However, Riddick has time and is also a running back.
