So LSU lost a TD to a celebration penalty during the Florida game. No big deal, stupid rule and the infraction was not that bad. What was bad, IMHO, is that the guilty party laughed it off, his teammates were laughing about it on the sidelines, the coaches were laughing about it on the sidelines. Amazing! If this had happened to an Alabama player, Saban would have really reamed the player out and it would be evident that costing the team a TD would not be acceptable no matter if it was a stupid rule or not. Interesting.

    I'm with Saban, if I were a coach ...

#1. I would have had a meeting at the start of fall camp, the sole topic would have been these stupid celebration penalities. I would go over with film examples of acts that get penalized. I would tell them that if anybody does it even stupider and celebrates and gets the TD off the board there will be dire consequences.

#2. I'd really really ream their asses during a game if they go on and do it any way.

What if Brian Kelly chewed out his player for that? Would he be raked over the coals by the media and fans? Probably.

    No, he wouldn't.

Kelly went berserk for one game and was rightfully pilloried by many, myself included. I would bet that he stood tall before the AD as well because he has been a completely different coach since that day. And the results seem to reflect a positive reaction to the new found sideline sanity.

LSU was laughing, because they knew that they were going to score a lot more points no matter what happened. Pete Carroll used this style of coaching at USC; Grant Teaff at Baylor; Lee Corso also and I'm not so sure that it's wrong. I lean toward this style myself and so does Corey. Yes, it's arrogant, but the theory here is that you instill confidence and a loose approach throughout the schedule. It makes no difference whether you're playing a great team or a terrible team; the central theme is: let's have fun, because nobody can beat us anyway. It's a great style for big games and coming from behind. The weakness of this approach, is that sometimes you get picked off by a lesser opponent...

I tend to agree with JO'Co, and I have said a number of times on this forum that I think Miles is a good coach and his players really like playing for him.

As long as they don't need the TD that is fine. :? I don't like the rule but if breaking it costs Alabama a TD then I'm pretty sure Saban is going to do everything in his power to stop it. Just like holding or offsides or illegal procedure oh well you get the picture.

I think it would be a mistake to think Miles won't attempt to put a stop to it also. I think the whole thing being the punter and all had something to do with the smiles.

This coming from a Gator. :)

Aw, Sid...all I ever said about it was there is a time to rant and chew @ss and a time to gather your team together and get organized...and it seemed to me that he got them mixed up in that one game. :)
