I've been hearing some scuttlebutt that in discussions tu has indicated they no longer wish to join the P12, B10+2, or SEC since all of them will not allow the LHN to stand on its own, instead wanting the wealth to be shared around. (tu wants to keep it all to themselves, despite the opinion of our own esteemed, but sadly misguided, straight-hearted local dentist that is willing to share and share alike.) Although they would consider going to the ACC (if there's room with this new move) since the ACC has indicated it would allow tu to keep their big money to themselves. [conjecture on]tu, once OU, OSU and A&M leave, will start their own conference, likely names to be the SAC (also known as the sadSAC conference, would be an obvious rip-off of the FCS South Athletic Conference, sic) that with the demise of the Big East, will try to bully its way to a BCS auto bid, while building the (sad) SAC conference with tu running the show, bringing along Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas St., Iowa St. (questionable, since they are decent some years), North Texas, Texas St., ut San Antonio, and Texas Southern. The name of the conference is up in the air, as obviously is its membership, and what I hear TACy (Texas Athletic Conference) and LTAC (Longhorn Texas Athletic Conference but is interestingly enough also what a Long-Term Acute Care facility is referred to in the medical field, appropriately named it appears) are also being considered, though the three non-TX schools are (weakly) against it. Oh, and if they are unable to convince Iowa St. or Texas Tech to come along, they are willing to bring Prairie View A&M into the mix to improve their chances of winning more than 50% of the conference championships.[\conjecture] That's just what I've heard, dunno how true it is, but it sounds within character from what I've known of most tu fans and tex exes (I still hesitate to call them graduates knowing the value of that piece of paper and that it's most often used as smoke papers when they can't afford another pack).
I saw that this morning as well Corey, you just beat me to putting it up. I've heard that the Longhorns will go independent in football, and join the ACC for the other sports. If that's true, I hope neither the Aggies nor the Sooners will play them any more. Let that fat TV contract wallow with games against Baylor and Texas St...
How about TCU? They left the MWC just as Boise State was joining, only to arrive in an empty basketball conference? Before this is all over... everyone will get what they deserve...
The basketball part of the BE conference will be far from empty. Although the defection of Syracuse and Pitt may tip scales in the argument over who is the better basketball conference in favor of the ACC, the BE will remain one of the two strongest BB conferences in the country. Football? Not so much, although that's really not a change. Pitt and Syracuse will not enhance the football strength of the ACC.
Just hhow many teams from the ACC will make it to the NCAA Big Dance? Pitt and Cuse have successful programs.
I have read that RU and UConn are also looking to move to the ACC now. I'll bet TCU is starting to doubt it's move to leave the Mtn West, if RU and UConn leave that will make the Big East football conference too small to be a BCS automatic qualifier. Louisville, WVa, TCU, USF, and Cincy would be way too small but those teams wouldn't have anywhere to go....although there are rumours that the SEC has some interest in WVa, I doubt if Kentucky would allow Louisville into the SEC and the others just don't seem to be a fit at all. Also I see that the ACC has upped it's exit fee to 20 million, no doubt a discouraging number for anybody thinking about leaving for the SEC. I wonder where the SEC will get it's 14th, 15th, and 16th members?
I think Slive is going to hit the ACC for any future additions to the SEC. It won't be WVA... they add nothing.
The whole idea of TCU's move to the Big East, a thousand miles away, was to get the automatic qualifying bid for football. Now...they get nothing.
