1st half: Dooley is surprising even me. After our first TD, he authorizes the on sides kick... and it WORKS! I knew that we would be in for a dog fight and this Cincinnati team is as tough as advertised. However, they have rolled the dice twice on 4th down and the Tennessee defense stuffed them both times. This game is far from over. Tennessee does have the lead but Cincinnati does have the ability to strike back. I am very happy with the last Tennessee scoring drive. Tyler threaded the needle to Rogers between two defenders to score the TD. The bend but don't break defense cost us to let Cincinnati get close enough for a 47 yard field goal attempt. No harm though... it was well short. If you don't have a dog in this fight, it will be a fun second half to watch. Tennessee leads 28 to 14
Second half: Outscored Cincinnati 17 to 9. Not concerned by the slow down in scoring since the whole 4th quarter was used to establish the run and milk the clock. Tennessee wins: 45 - 23 We are 2 - 0 with a trip to the swamp coming up next week. We have a fairly one dimensional offense with the running game sputtering but the air attack fully functional. Offensive line needs to work on run blocking. They got better throughout the game but some of that could be from the Bearcat defense wearing down. Running backs need to hold onto the ball. Two fumbles today and both were lost. Defense needs to wrap up tackles rather than trying to knock the snot out of the ball carrier.
Congratulations Tom! I trust you noted my confidence points for the Volunteers in the pickem contest!
Thank you sir, and yes it was noted. Until we get better at the running game, my confidence will be lower than you.
Tom, You guys looked good handling a very athletic Cincy. Well done.. Also, gotta love Dooley with the onside....
For the first time in several years, I am actually looking forward to the rest of the season... including next week!
