Carlo's weakness at this level apparently is his open field pass defense. But one of the reasons that Teo can roam around all over the field is that Carlo stayed home and took care of business at the LOS. Before he went down with a quad injury he was averaging nine tackles a game and was second in tackles only to Teo. And if you remember the MSU game, he single handedly kept us in that one defensively in the second half.

I wish Fox the best because if he does well the team does well. But the bar has been set at 8-9 stops per game. Anything less just is not enough.

Irish will no longer walk from Mass to the stadium. Instead they will get on buses and take a route that goes through tailgates, and ends up at the Gug, and they will walk from the Gug to the stadium. They are selling it as an exciting new traditon...I guess. But I kind of liked the old one.

Here's a link to the explanation.

    Well.. it could be exciting..

They've been gutting the tailgating experience for years there but maybe this will be a good thing.

Letting go of old traditions is difficult. In this case, they are not doing away with it. They simply are changing the route that the team takes to the stadium. I'd be interested in the rationale behind the change. I'm guessing that there is a good reason for it.

If you watch the video linked they mainly site fan experience, going through the tailgate areas and the new route to the stadium will give more fans opportunity to cheer on the team. But one little nugget is let out in the presentation, that is team meetings at the Gug before the walk to the stadium. With the old regimen the team walked from Mass to the Stadium so what ever team meetings they had were there, I'm guessing Kelly feels like the Gug is better set up for pre-game team meetings and this might be the real reason behind the change.

    Terry,

I did not watch the video, but the team meetings angle makes perfect sense. I agree with your analysis of the rationale. Were you in on the decision? Coach Kelly has told me he values your input.

    Sid,

Watching the video and knowing the ND game day experience, one thing I had noted is that the team is very much away from the fans and student body. In the South, I am quite sure those kids get off the bus jacked up through the roof because they are drug right through the tailgates and mayhem of game day in many locations. While ND did have their walk, this almost seems to be to the benefit of the team and fans. I think it could be a good thing.

I just found a certain irony in that they have made an effort to really tame down the tailgating for the past decade, but now it will be something virtually showcased to the team. Odd.. but like you, I hope it's a good thing.
