http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=14&yr=2012 Muschamp's old team #2........new team #3. ....interesting.
Not surprising in either case. Texas as long as Mack Brown is there will be a recruiting machine, it wasn't so under David McWilliams or John Mackovic, not that we couldn't get talent but we didn't get so much so fast. Mack is basically through, oh there are guys out there that we are recruiting, like Austin Peat a 5* OL but the class is pretty much done. Fla ever since Spurrier arrived has also been a team that gobbles up top rated talent. I don't actually know if Muschamp was a good recruiter at Texas as the comings and goings of staff at Texas over Mack's career haven't really impacted recruiting one way or the other. But I do know that your OCoord is an outstanding and tireless recruiter who's job was made easier in not having to work around ND academics and South Bend weather.
Terry, perhaps Notre Dame's academic requirements are tougher than Florida's. However our's are way tougher than minimum requirements and we don't recruit a lot of players because of that. I'll give you the weather. And I will agree with you about Weiss.
I know how Weis recruited Carlo Calabrese against the Gators. I can assure you he has changed his talk track.
George as you well know Charlie is Charlie and while he worked as hard as any HC in recruiting, his manner sometimes irritated high school coaches. There are a lot of stories out there about Charlie ticking off some HS coach. But there were also many, many, stories of how parents liked Charlie's approach...I mean I doubt if Vinny Cerratto could have gotten Man'ti Te'o away from USC..but Charlie did.
Looking at the Gators class it is heavy on defense, and no QB (yet) are you guys passing on a QB this year?
With true frosh Jeff Driskel and a couple of capable 1st/2nd year back-ups in the fold I doubt a top Qb is a high priority but great 5 star type athletes that want a spot could always get one I would assume.....at least one anyway.
This is Brantley last year isn't it? Driskell of course being groomed to be the starter next year, so I am surprised that you don't have a high profile QB in this class. Seems like you will be very thin next year at QB.
We have two young back-ups to Driskel doing well.....one being Jacoby Brissett. I guess it does not seem to be critical.
From what I heard Driskel and Brissett are battling it out for 3rd string at this point with Tyler Murphy being the backup. I hear Driskel and Brissett are neck and neck and I would expect one or the other to be the guy next year. That of course brings up the question, what does the one who doesn't win do, back up or transfer. The last time we had this situation Cam Newton transferred. We all know how he did after that. Of course Mr Tebow did quite well for himself also. I am not aware of a high profile QB we are after this year.
So after making the comments above, I go to GatorCountry and it appears that Driskel has moved ahead of the other two into the backup role as of right now.
