Not so WSU. You have to know where you came from to know where you are going. In Obama's case around here on Skybox no seems to be able to remember where they came from but it's pretty easy for me.
:? lets see. under Bush I had a good job one that paid me more than my husband .. had it for 17 years then my job was outsourced to India had to take early retirement so they wouldnt loot my pension fund of half of what it was worth. Jim and I did very well in the stock market. Under OBAMA. I still cant get a job. (collections unless they are agency;s and I do have some pride in what I do) and Jim and I are losing money inthe market. and right now found a house we love but afraid to go for it. . Now forall my friends at HSBC is selling off their credit card division so any one holding an orchard or lowes or best buy or any othe the other generic cards beware they are selling them to Well Fargo or Citi. and they are also laying off 30000 people *doesnt include the 9 locations servicing credit cards. that another 7500 . why you ask because HSBC has no faith in our governemnt and its leaders. all that from a British Bank .There is only one thing obama is good for campaigning he does that better than anything else but after today he really shouldnt bother he cant get re elected ...
Point is Mrs. that the Dow lost 1500 points under Bush, the credit/housing crisis caused an almost Depression and I lost my job. Those are significant enough to me that we had better get it right soon and just endorsing a blanket return to Bushenomics and the GOP after those results seems like an ill advised plan.

Here's an interesting chart. This is the unemployment rate for the first six years of the last Bush administration. Unemployment was already going up when he came in, because of the recession that he inherited from Clinton. Notice how dramatically the nation went back to work until the lib/Dems won the 2006 Congressional election. Those six years saw more new jobs created then at any other six year period in American history. It was in January, 2007 that San Fran Nan and Horseface Harry took over the reigns of federal spending and long, downward spiral began. Please post a chart showing how Obama has been doing in his first term...
These times remind me quite a bit of when I was a child and Jimmy Carter was President. What reminds me so much of that time is the Democrats themselves. Democrats (like my father) had stayed with the party through thick and thin for so long but eventually threw their hands up and walked away.. some have returned recently.. Some of the GenY kids who saw the almost Nazi-esque campaign production of Obama and were all caught up in the hype, are now becoming old enough to question their blind faith... People, en masse, are starting to ask "Can I really be a Republican?" Nothing, and I mean nothing, would behoove the interest of the GOP to drop Jesus and Gays from their ticket. I'd rather lose the south and gain the midwest. You'd gain California as well, but the Democratic corruption that took over that state in the early 90s will take decades (or a revolution) to undo.. Point being... I may well know as many Democrats as anyone on this board outside of possibly Sid.. I assure you, I know more card carrying Communists than anyone on this board... all of them voted for Obama and all of them are now looking for anything else.
The GOP's obsession with gays and the right to life issue torpedos them continually. They always shoot themselves in the foot over these personal issues and it completely dilutes their more important positions.
.....assures the GOP of the religious, rural voting base without which they are toast. Most people know they aren't wealthy if they are honest about it with themselves but many rural states are carried by religious conservatism.
Its all about the electoral votes. You can have the deep south... I'll trade you all of them for a California or a New York. Maybe an Illinois.
George, I don't see the gay issue as a minor one as you do but probably for a completely different reason. For decades gays lived together laughing at homosexual married couples who paid what was commonly called the "marriage tax." It was to their economic benefit to not be married. Then along came AIDS. All of a sudden it was to their advantage to be "married" so that they could obtain spousal medical benefits. The claim of discrimination is complete ********. Now as gays marry they will qualify for social security survivors benefits. We will have a large number of new beneficiaries who will put even more of a strain on the struggling system. I don't care about the moral or religious aspect of this issue. It's a very significant economic issue.
You make a valid point but it was always be thrown in your face as sexual discrimination which is a no-win proposition.
Dave I agree that the GOP is strengthened by its association with the religious right and rural vote. I personally believe that its not a matter of faith or love for the country life but is simply a way to receive votes. The Democrats would do the same thing if it meant getting votes but has chosen the non God route and risk losing its members if God was mentioned as deity. You are going to have to help me with the point you are trying to make with your statement here...?
....and they do with the inner city vote for sure. The GOP has mystified it's followers into thinking they're rich......somehow. And that is why rural.....poor......conservatives can overlook their personal misfortunes in favor of God and country.
NO. They just don't agree with the Democratic philosophy that they're hopelessly incapable of taking care of themselves and that they need the big tit of government to sustain them. They may not be rich but taxes and government interference make that possibility even more difficult.
At least they stand for something and are willing to stand up for what they believe in, as opposed to changing their "moral compass" every time the wind changes direction.
Thanks for the clarification of what you were trying to say, I have to agree with gippers response to your statement though. I have lived in Miami and Ft. Myers and also lived in rural areas that are not big enough to have a Post Office. My experience of living in a city has been that the residents expect to be taken care of from the goverment leaders when it comes to services or way of life. So much that if there is a brief interruption in those services all hell breaks loose with gnashing of teeth. The idea of Democrat vs Republican has real meaning to city dwellers because it effects the services that they love. My description serves only to explain my experiences of living in urban areas but does not speak or describe how everyone feels, to do so would be very arrogant. The rural area people I live with have experienced a lack of provision from all forms of government and the only time they have contact with a gov official are voting periods, tax time or some form of inspection. Take those away and they are invisible and so are the fruits of the taxes they pay. It is as Gipper mentioned a foreign thought to rely on the Tit of the government for help because it is not wanted or expected. I am neither Republican or Democrat and want to puke when someone tells me I should vote the party line regardless of my thoughts. The reason most people vote a particular direction is how well they can relate to the issue they are voting on. The idea of someone knowing what is best for me stinks of elitism and this is what I think of when the Democratic party is mentioned. The Republican party gives impressions of Big business first and the trickling down of those ideas to those waiting below. I cannot say I agree with all the dogma but it is the better of two evils for me and one I can relate to at the moment. The main factor for me being conservative is the fact that they want less government and where the liberal mindset is more governing is the answer for the people whether they can see that or not.
