Interesting.....and thankfully ( for Gator fans ) a positive take on why UF's season shouldn't just be written off due to the ominous stretch of games in October: Alabama -H preseason top 5 LSU - A preseason top 5 Auburn - A preseason top 20 Georgia - Jax preseason top 15 http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20110711/ARTICLES/110719969?tc=cr I do agree....if Ron Zook can beat LSU like a drum in Baton Rouge while the Tigers are enroute to the national title then why not Will Muschamp? I am curious.....anyone else's team have a similar tough slate of games in succession? If so....please list.
ND's schedule isn't made up that way. We do play 9 teams who were bowl teams last year and USC who would have played in a bowl if they weren't on probation. We don't get much of a warmup period. We open with USF and then play Mich. on the road at night and then play MSU at home.

Come on NDfan....YOU can't be serious. FSU is predicted to win the BCS bid for the ACC in almost every mag and the SEC has some very strong teams coming back who.....by the way.....happened to do pretty well against some ND opponents on New Year's Day last year......in case you were sleeping one off and didn't catch it.... 8)
I know Stu....we're talking about SEC football here which doesn't have any relevance on the natio..n..a..l.....sc..ene.....no.....wait..... 8)
That 4 game stretch when you look at the preseason expectations is pretty daunting for any team....SEC or otherwise. I would like to see some similar examples of other teams having that sort of "gauntlet" to navigate. Anyone?
There is a void this time of year and frankly the incessant talk of baseball and/or Notre Dame only is.....well....... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The Gauntlet.....pppfffhhhhhhhhh.....check this schedule out pal. 09/03 Tenn Chat Big 10 2:30 pm 09/10 Fresno State Big 10 6 pm 09/17 Washington ABC 2:30 pm 09/24 @Wyoming Versus 6:30 pm 10/01 @Wisconsin ABC/ESPN 7 pm 10/08 Ohio State ABC/ESPN 7 pm 10/22 @Minnesota ABC 2:30 pm 10/29 Michigan St TBA 11/05 Northwestern TBA 11/12 @Penn State TBA 11/19 @Michigan TBA 11/25 Iowa ABC 11 am
A sprinkling of ranked teams there AJ......but certainly no gauntlet of highly ranked teams except if Minnesota didn't jump in there is that stretch in the middle with Wis., OSU, Mn and then MSU would qualify as comparable to UF's 4 game "gauntlet". MSU, Wisky and possibly OSU look to be the the highest ranked on the schedule but are any top 5? Go back 15-20 years and those last three on the schedule would be a doozy.
Fla has a tough conference schedule on paper. If any of those teams don't turn out to be as good as the pre-season predictions then it won't be all that tough given the 3 gimmie games against no-name competition.
I agree it's all on paper right now but chances are pretty good that Bama and LSU will be top performing teams this year. Auburn still has returning players from their NC year and Georgia supposedly has one of the best Qbs in the SEC....not to mention Spurrier is supposed to have maybe the best South Carolina team ever with Qb Garcia, RB Marcus Lattimore and WR Alshon Jeffrey back. All on paper for now but it sure looks like sand paper more than Charmin at the moment.
Nothing seems too pleasurable about an impending 4 or 5 loss season Georgy. And unless unusual things happen in a good way for Florida that's what the Gators are looking at. At this point the Outback Bowl again.....while disappointing to a certain degree......may be be just what UF gets at about an 8-4 record. Now.....care to offer up any objective analysis on the Skybox's team..... THE Notre Dame Fighting Irish?
Auburn's last good hope at being a top 20 team was that QB who went to Wisconsin... Without that QB last year, that team loses 4 or 5 games... They lost the OL, DL, Heisman winner and they were NOT deep.. Did Georgia even finish .500 last year? If memory serves, they didn't 'get good' last year until they got into the SEC East schedule.. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. Alabama should be stout, then again, I think you'll lose that game. LSU, if they can find a paperboy to not screw up that offense, should beat you as well. There's 2 losses..Fret not though, you'll almost be bowl eligible by the end of September.
