Report on UT site that a press conference will be held at 11:00 eastern today to announce the resignation of Mike Hamilton. There are question marks in the topic title because there are already rumors circulating that this is false.
He's good with counting the beans but athletics is not his strong point. The Kiffen fiasco followed by the handling of the Pearl issue signed his fate with the Volunteer Nation.
Not to hijack the thread simply to offer the thought....if the investigation of the car issue in C'bus finds material shortcomings on the part of the compliance area and processes, I expect our guy will be out of work soon as well.....as he should be.
You have to figure that the fall out from the Bruce Pearl situation was the reason he resigned. In that vein you have to wonder how in the world Gene Smith can survive barring some amazing revelation that makes everything go away. I'll also wonder how Butch Davis and the UNC AD have survived all the stuff that went on in Chapel Hill and don't get me going on Auburn.
Jim, The scary thing is this: There is a push in the Vol Nation, even from the knowledgeable high $$$ donors to hire Phil Fulmer as the new AD. I like Phil. I was one of the last supporters of Johnny Majors and was one of few that wanted to give Phil longer due to his disciplinary actions taken against off the field issues in his final year. I don't think he has the bean counter mental aptitude for the AD job. Athletics... hell yes. I just don't think having to take off his shoes to count to 21 would be a good thing! 8) 8) 8)
Looks like the rumors about this not being true were themselves, not true. Hamilton has resigned. Mike Hamilton's timeline at Tennessee
 This is only my opinion, but I think it's time for the Big Broom at Tennessee. They should hire an outsider, even a northerner or westerner...man or woman...to come in and clean the place out. Very few universities have the resources and community backing of VolNation. The possibilities are endless in almost every sport. The times they are a-changing again. I learned that following my granddaughter's volleyball team. It was a whole athletic world that I didn't even know existed...huge crowds...passionate followers...people arguing and shouting at each other in the parking lots... The days when big-time athletic departments were run by the good-old-boys in the football department are over. A more modern AD could do wonders at a place like Tennessee and the football department is only a good place to start...IMHO.
It's hard to imagine a worse choice for Tenn AD than Phil Fulmer. He had discipline problems as a coach, he has no background in Administration. It would be an unmitigated disaster. Today's AD's are administrators with business backgrounds and in general have worked themselves up through the ranks as athletic administrators.
