I think that we have to look at the totality of what happened. First JT gets a message from an attorney that his players may be involved in a criminal investigation. Now the tip is not from just any attorney it's one of the football family a former player. JT is apparently concerned enough about the situation to notify Pryor's mentor but as we know doesn't tell the compliance dept.
Now it gets worse. Not only does he lie under oath to the NCAA but he knowing allows his involved players to play the full season. Then it gets even more seedy. After the violations are finally made public he has the Big Ten Commissioner go to bat for his players to get them ruled eligible to play in the bowl game. The commissioner looks like a stooge and the NCAA which went along with the request later learns that OSU's record and bowl slot is questionable since players that shouldn't have been eligible for a least part of the season played in every game.
This indirectly impacted MSU and Wisc. who tied for the conference title with the Bucks. With OSU having used ineligible players the tiebreaker would have been head to head betoween those 2 schools with MSU not Wisc. going to the Rose Bowl.
Now to talk about the car situation. Here's a link to a piece on the compliance dept. by the usually absent local media.
    http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2011/06/03/audit-warned-osu-of-need-to-raise-its-guard.html?sid=101
In this piece they note that 9 players have received traffic tickets while driving cars with dealer plates!!!! NINE!!!!
According to the article "OSU compliance officials said the majority of those players purchased used cars and were given a dealer license plate while waiting for the new registrations. "
WTF? First of all, whenever I or any of my family ever bought a car we'd have to pay among other things title and license fees. We would get temporary plates and the metal plates would come shortly. (Some times we could use plates that we already had.) On top of that we had to have a binder of insurance before we could take possession. We never got dealer plates.
Now let's look at what we're being handed. First if we believe that they had dealer plates wile waiting for the new registrations that means that 9 players were such bad drivers that they got caught in that short time before the new plates came. And if 9 got caught, how many didn't? It appears to me that a dealer plate is an illegal benefit. If the players never have to get their own plates they're saving some money the rest of the students would have to pay for license plates. On top of that with dealer plates they wouldn't have to get car insurance because with dealer plates they'd be covered under the dealership's fleet policy.
I find it unbelievable that the OSU compliance dept. bought that ******** about the dealer plates and didn't see the problems with it.

Spare me the nonsense.....the players had already been suspended. The NCAA was already aware of their deeds when they re-instated them for the game. This was not a precedent and indeed said it was their policy to do so.....as for the Big 10 commish, heaven forbid he would support one of the member institutions that pays his salary....gimme a break with the revisionist history crap.....

OOOOH! for 2011 even though JT knew before the 2010 season started that they would be facing suspensions for that season. Of course he always thought that no matter what OSU fans would have his back and he was right. I'm sure that if the NCAA was aware that JT had known before the season started that they were ineligible the decision would have been different. And as to your commissioner, OK I'll agree, he's a gutless, pathetic yes man who has no backbone.

You're sure my ass....you're sure of nothing other than spewing sanctimonious ********.....enough of your pious nonsense. Perhaps if you put forth the same efforts at identifying and opining about bad judgement and negligence in SB you can help your alma mater avoid their own workplace disasters......carry on your holiness.

I'm going to give this topic a 4 hour cool off period. It will be unlocked a little after 13:00 central. Think about your friendships over the years and how words said in haste and anger sometimes come back to bite you later.

With attention turned recently to scandals and sanctions at Ohio St. and USC a new controversy may be brewing in college football. Fans representing an unnamed college football have contacted the NCAA and raised the possibility of an unfair advantage gained by Notre Dame last season.
It seems that some feel that the death of Delcan Sullivan, a university employee working for the athletic department, was actually a human sacrifice offered up by ND coach Brian Kelly to turn his teams season around. After Sullivan’s death Notre Dame went on to win its last 4 games of the season including victories over Utah, USC, and a Sun Bowl win over Miami (Fl).
Car dealers in on university community were worried that human sacrifices might become a common practice in their area lessening their need to get involved with team members. Meanwhile one coach in the Gulf area when he learned about the possible benefits of human sacrifices said “hey, we looked it up and it’s not against the rules. We’re hoping to get in a few good kills before the university presidents in this dad gum conference do away with this too.”
USC coach Lane Kiffin was touring high cliff areas along the Pacific coast and was unavailable for comment.

.....or perhaps, Mrs. Sullivan we are truly sorry for your loss but you can take great comfort in knowing that we take our institutional oversight and compliance responsibilities quite seriously and you can be certain that your son never swapped any of his trinkets for a tatoo......

Pryor's attorney announced this afternoon, that he will forgo his senior year at Ohio State. Whether he will be elbigle for the supplemental draft is still in question, as he was not dismissed by the university. Generally a hardship is required for a player to enter the supplemental draft.

Does he get to keep the tattoos?

Well one thing, Pryor now that he is no longer a member of the Ohio State team he will not have to cooperate with the NCAA.

Herbstreit said on ESPN Radio that he thinks there is a lot more to come out about the program. He also said that don't bury the team as even with the loss of Pryor there is a lot of talent on hand and that he would not be surprised to see them go to Lincoln undefeated or with only 1 loss.

ESPN now has a "source" who says he is a "former" friend of Pryors and that he claims Pryor made thousands of dollars from signing memorbilia for a Columbus Businessman.

This is an ugly situation that's just beginning as a story, but the healing at Ohio State begins with the launch of Pryor. He was a rotten egg who infected everything that he touched. Just think...both Notre Dame and Michigan came very close to signing that guy. I think we all dodged a bullet there. To paraphrase the Denny McLane prosecutor, "Pryor wasn't a football player who fell in with gangsters; Pryor was a gangster who was good at football."

Absolutely correct. The first step is complete. The Buckeyes will be back... but they need to clean house first.

This is every school's nightmare. George is correct. Ohio State is one of those schools with the tradition and will to return to the top. It's going to be a tough couple of years and hopefully the NCAA acts sooner rather than later.

If I were a Buckeye fan I would want that hearing next week and penalties to begin July 1st.

The quicker you get it over with the sooner the program can move on.

I would like the investigation to be completed before the hearing.

I would like Pryor to cooperate with the NCAA...if he truly wants to do the "best thing for his teamates" he will do just that.
