That's a good analogy kp. Here's another one, State NCAA builds a new six lane highway that goes through towns Notre Dame, Big 10, Big 12, SEC and some other towns. State NCAA sets a 65 mph speed limit but allows the towns to set lower, but not higher, speed limits. Teams Notre Dame, Bug 10 and Big 12 make the speed limit through their towns 25 mph and the SEC sets their speed limit at 45 mph. As it turns out people who are driving but need to stop prefer to stop in Town SEC. In time the other cities notice the difference in tourists in the towns and that business is thriving in Town SEC. They ask why don't they prefer to come here to our towns? They then conclude it's the speed limit. So then the other towns start insisting that Town SEC change their speed limit to match theres, after all their way must be the best way. Then they are dumbfounded that Town SEC doesn't quite see it that way. Human Nature.
Well Tim let's take a few of your comments one at a time. First let's consider the word condescending. Interesting word. Go back and look that the wording of your topic and let's consider two things. First your whole wording of your topic was condescending. OMG the big bad SEC is finally deciding they might change and come closer to our point of view. That is what was underlying in your topic name. So there is a bit of a difference in our approaches, I never start a topic with and inflammatory name about any of our members favorite schools. I might about FSU because we don't have any Nole fans here, not smart enough I think. However I would never start a topic about Notre Dame that said something like EDITED OUT That would be inflammatory and not true. Even if I had some feelings in that direction I would not start the topic that way. But you do, and yes my style is to for the most part stay away from insulting another fans school when I am posting, in your case Notre Dame, but to perhaps be a little more blunt person to person. Also I had already started a topic about this subject and you could have put your comments there. Probably not in as dramatic a fashion but it was available. As to logic, indeed I do think my approach to this is more logical than yours, not because I am a superior logical thinker, but because regardless of what you think my mind is open on this topic and I am for some changes. Like I told Terry, with his approach I could easily sit down with him and negotiate changes because of his approach and the fact his mind is also open. I don't think you and I could negotiate changes because I don't think you would be very open to understanding our point of view. If you find the above condescending I am sorry but not sorry enough to not defend my position. Try starting a topic and a discussion in a less accusatory manner and you might be really surprised at my approach.
sec <r>Wow! I never said anything in my posts about Florida or you in particular but You drag Notre Dame into the conversation I'm assuming as a jab at me and it tells me your previous comments about how you once had such disdain for ND and ND fans but have a change of heart may not be sincere. <br/> <br/> Anyone can look at your posts and see you don't like ND and that's no problem. Just stop denying it. It's O.K. We can read between the lines. <br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> <br/> <br/> You must have really enjoyed throwing that up there in BOLD letters huh?<br/> <br/> Please don't give me anymore definitions when I'm assuming your an intelligent person and know what I'm talking about. If I want a dictionary definition I've got one here. <br/> <br/> The subject in this post is the SEC, not Florida. Pleas stop giving personal insults and dragging my favorite team into the conversation. <br/> <br/> I have not insulted you or taken any shots at you or Florida in particular in this topic. <br/> <br/> If I wanted to post in a topic you started I would have. I started this topic because it was something I felt at the time and I thought than within reason a person could start a topic on with any title he or she wanted here. <br/> <br/> No Bill, your attitude would indicate we could never sit down together and have a conversation about much of anything. <br/> <br/> I'm sorry you felt my topic and conversation was "accusatory". When I started it I had no one, and no team in "particular" in mind, it was directed toward the SEC in general.<br/> <br/> I'll tell you what Bill, since you seem really oversensitive about anything related to the SEC or Florida, I'll promise not to comment on either directly in any future posts. <br/> [/quote]</r>
You are an amazing guy Tim. In fact i am very sincere about my thoughts about Notre Dame and it is because of Terry, Sid, the O Conners and yes much of the time gipper. And no I did not enjoy putting up that that post up about The accident at Notre Dame, I did that to make point with you which at this point I think you missed. But regardless I will edit it out if I can right now with my iPad, if not when I have access to my computer.
Was that Gip's nickname back in the day? I can see it now....ain't nuttin' hipper than the Gipper! 8)
....the home field - hangin' with the Irish and gettin' hipper with the Gipper. While you're there you can bob and weave to the jaunty jabs of the Bare Knuckle Bobbies - catch the hip Gip with pugnacious pose of pugilistic purposes....
hipper, gipper, what the heck if you have seen one you have seen them all. Thanks BT I have corrected it to gipper. I am still adjusting to the ipad and how to type. I am about to order a external keyboard and hope that it fits my lap and helps me with some of the typing issues. Sorry hipper dipper gipper!
Thought we all could use a laugh around here....getting too damn tense and too damn serious. Stu has it right....don't sweat the small stuff and it's ALL small stuff
BT, I agree with Stu and also know I sometimes get real serious. I have been waiting for Tim's comment after the SEC took the stand they did, I guess I would wait a long time. As a critic of the over signing how do you feel about the steps the SEC took?
I commented on another topic, but I do applaud the SEC President's actions. It will reduce the number of oversignings allowed annually, but until you address the hard cap of 85 total roster schollies, oversigning will still exist, moreso in some years than others. No question that it is a positive step.....
BT, everyone is limited by first the 85 player limit then the 25 per year numbers. The three over the Big 10 allows for attrition may or may not be enough. My memory of what typically happens between the end of one football season and the start of the next is that there are typically 5 or more losses for grades, transfer, discipline etc. I don't see the problem in allowing for that. Where does the Big 10 stand on counting back to last years class, if you had a vacancy, for early entries?
On signing day for some Bill, not until August for others......therein lies the issue and cause of concern for many. The march to cull the herd between signing day and camp and the many creative and sometimes unfortunate ways of doing so and the opportunity to evaluate these young men over that time frame vis a vis other roster players is the heart and soul of the issue for the majority of the more vocal opponents of the practice that I've heard.....
BT, another step that the SEC took was that all medical hardship cases had to be approved by the league office. That is of course to keep coaches from using the medical hardship to, as you say, cull the herd. From what I have read this goes well beyond what was expected and is very reasonable. And I am still waiting for Tim to comment on the action that was taken. Probably will be a long wait.
I think that is a very positive step Bill. I support any efforts to minimize the negative effects the practice can have on the kids.....
