He was a hero to a lot of people, including me. His grandsons go to school with my grandson at Damien High School. They haven't been seen this week, despite Damien being in the baseball playoffs. Some things are more important than sports...

    Check that...

The Dodgers are on TV and Vin Scully just announced that Chad Hochin, the older of Harmon Killebrew's grandsons hit a HR to win the game for Damien in tonight's playoff game...

I saw him at The Fens once. He jacked a ball over the green monster...over the 20 foot high fencing on top of the monster...and probably travelled 600 feet with the roll!!

Just a real class guy. Baseball fans of my age group will miss him.

Damien won their playoff game with top ranked Glendora 6-4. Killebrew's grandson, Chad Hochins (soph) hit two HRs in the game. His other grandson, Grant Hochins (frosh) is a pitcher who has been clocked at over 90mph on the gun. Here's an interview with Damien's head coach Al Leyva after the game, which was played at Damien. Both Corey and I have coached with Al. His brother is Pittsburgh Pirate base coach Nick Leyva. The pitching coach they refer to is Dr. Steve Bast, who's both a medical doctor and a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. Damien's baseball program is a good one...
