I don't really follow it all that closely so I didn't know that they had new bats this year in College Baseball. There is a good article on it in today's Houston Chronicle.

Seems like ERA's are down and so is the offense in college baseball. Houston Cougar coach doesn't really care for them that much.
From some things I've read on NDNation is that these bats are filtering down to high school level as well. Be interested to read what JO'Co and Corey have to say about it.

    New Bats

On a college baseball note, this past weekend was the Texas/Neb baseball series which the Longhorns won 2-1, was the last scheduled meeting between any Longhorn and any Husker team.

I've heard about these new bats, but I haven't seen one yet. They sound like a much needed improvement. Somebody was going to get killed with the old aluminum bats; they were a real safety hazzard. I've seen high school kids launch HRs that traveled nearly 500' and I once got hit on the leg by a line drive while watching batting practice from behind the mound....I had no time to duck out of the way, it came back too fast.

If these bats simulate real wood baseball bats, then I'm all for them. Next, we need to get rid of the maple bats too...

IMO the aluminum bats artificially inflated power numbers in college baseball. The transition will bring the game and the statistics back to reality. The Houston coach is way off base, but his frustration is understandable. He likely recruited power hitters whose stats will suffer.
    Gimme a break!
