    Secure your Wireless

In this case they eventually found out the guy didn't do it and it was his 25 y/o neighbor who was stealing his wifi who was downloading kiddie porn.

I have a wireless connection and it's open to the public. It drives my brother-in-law crazy. How do you secure a wireless connection? I've never worried about it.

    JOCO,

Really? You need to lock that up.

When I lived in downtown Florence, my roommate Will and I had this incredible movie collection. Still do, it's rather amazing. The reason we never worried about any pesky C and D letters? We never used our own connection.

Now we downloaded movies and video games for the boy. There are bastards out there who are downloaded (and uploading) terrible things. Lock it up... good advice.

Secure it JO'Co, if you don't know how to do it your self get a buddy who's computer savy to come over and do it for you! Corey could probably talk you through it on the phone.

I'll email my brother-in-law. He's some kind of cyber security expert for the army.

yeah if I get a steady cell signal, I'll call and walk ya through it. You will probably need your installation software if you still have it. If you don't, you should still be able to put a password on it.

If you happen to stumble upon it before I can make that call. Don't pick 'password, Dodgers' or something like that.

    Corey,

Shouldn't need installation software. Most wireless routers use "admin" for the administrator user name and either "admin" or leave it blank for the password. Get onto a wired computer and type in: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in an IE Browser window to connect to it. If you can get into that admin account, you should be able to do anything without the install cd.

    Tom,

I know the language you are speaking but I assure you JOCO does not :)

If anyone will answer the phone there, I'll walk him through it.

Tom and Corey, I'm with JoCo. First, I switched to a high speed modem 30+ mps. Worked great. Then I found that my router speed was about half that. Called comcast. They outfitted me with a high speed router and walked me through the security thing.
