Heard a radio sports story today that claimed that 18 members of Auburn's 13-0 football team of a couple years back now state that they never attended classes. In lieu of that they simply took a course from the same tutor who had them read one book and submit a ten page paper on what they read. That was sufficient to keep them eligible.

    Is this possible?

I believe it was Cadillac Williams who took a math course where he had to wrote a paper as to what Statistics was all about instead of working Statistics problems. And it wasn't a Math Department Professor.

Auburn has appointed a committee to look into all this.

    It could get interesting.

    Interesting

<t>The directed study course that started all of this was available to all students. Is it alleged that only athletes were offered these courses?</t>

I don't know what "directed studies" are but it is alleged that all these 18 "students" had to do to remain elegible for football was read one book and submit one 10 page report. One player who was interviewed could not even remember the name of the book.

    What a pathetic charade

Directed studies are when a student takes a course from a Professor outside a normal classroom environment. The student and Professor meet periodically and the student is meant to do the same work that might be done in a classroom.

What I find disturbing is that someone can take a math class and not do math. :(

    Guys, guys, guys....

<r>.... would we do anything like that? I have spoken with the members of that team and I can personally vouch for the fact that they can add and that they at least know what their own statistics are <E></E> <br/>
