The following statements are from Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly and junior wide receiver Michael Floyd: University of Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly: “I’ve spoken to Michael Floyd and his mother and, in light of what took place this past weekend, I let him know he has been suspended indefinitely from football team-related activities. Football needs to take a backseat at the moment while Michael gets his life in order, and while I don’t know when Michael will be reinstated, it will not happen until Michael demonstrates he has successfully modified his behavior and the legal and university disciplinary matters have run their respective courses. What’s most important right now is Michael focusing on maturing and developing more as a person while working to improve his decision-making processes.” Notre Damewide receiver Michael Floyd: “First of all, I want to apologize to my family, friends, teammates, coaches, the University and the extended Notre Dame family for my behavior this weekend. I understand the gravity of the decision I made and how it could have had catastrophic effects on myself and others. I’ve talked to Coach Kelly and I accept the decision he made. I absolutely recognize that I have many things to work on to become abetter person and will need to regain the trust of all whom I have hurt within my immediate family and the Notre Dame family. I fully intend to spend the immediate future improving myself to become a better member of our community.”
Just thinking about Floyd's situation it might be best if he withdrew from the university at this time. He should go home and enter an alcohol abuse therapy program. (This will help in his criminal matter too.) He has a hearing set for May 2 on the DUI matter. With an experienced attorney he probably can get the matter resolved at that time. After the criminal case has been disposed of he should petition ND to resume his studies in the fall. I think that this is better than having to go through discipline procedures while he's still attending school. If he is allowed to resume his studies, Kelly then can handle the team portion of the situation. He could attend fall practice but miss some games. Just some thoughts.
Good thoughts gip, he needs you as his lawyer. It's bound to be extremely tough for him to try and go to class, concentrate on his studies, deal with the DUI, deal with duLac, all the while his teammates are going through Spring Practice.
His teammates will be going through Spring practice without their captain. While he's gone they should pick another one...
I agree with JO'Co here, he should be done as Captain. Kelly agree's with JO'Co as well, and said Harrison Smith will be the lone Captain, for now.
My guess is that we've seen the last of Michael Floyd in a Notre Dame uniform. I hope he gets his life straightened out. PJ in Jersey
