Well not suprisingly there are probably as many people pissed at the committee as are pleased with the selections. Texas fans are pretty universally outraged that Fla is a #2 and Texas is a #4 and feel the B12 got screwed when Colorado did not get an invite. I haven't watched the post selection shows but what I'm reading is that ESPN is taking a lot of shots at the selections. ND fans are reasonably happy.
The ESPN guys are bashing the committee relentlessly for picking UAB and VCU over Colorado and VaTech. One example of many: Jay Bilas wondered aloud if the committee members know that the ball is round. That is the theme of the conversation.
While being a no. 2 might be somewhat of a disappointment, playing in Chicago in the opening rounds is a plus. Overall a small plus.
:? No matter how big they make the field, the arguments continue. I refuse to get worked up about whether the #64 team is superior to the #63 team. At some point, you have to shut up and play ball. Those who believe that a playoff would stop the arguing in football should follow the basketball feuds. How large would a "fair" football playoff be? Top four teams? Eight? Sixteen? Thirty-two?
I think we all are going to enjoy watching this tournament! There are any number of teams in this years group that can win it all. No real clear cut favorite in my opinion. Who ever makes it to Houston will have earned the trip.
Bill, ESPN often reminds me of a used car salesman trying to sell you something, you do not want in the first place.
Maybe I have been too hard on the Gators. Records Versus RPI Top 50: #1 Ohio State is 9-2. #1 Kansas is 8-2. #1 Duke is 7-2. #1 Pitt is 9-5. #2 Florida is 11-3. #2 Notre Dame is 11-5. #2 North Carolina is 2-4. #2 San Diego State is 5-2.
JO'Co The difference being at the end of the tournament... no one argues that the champion isn't legit. Just that maybe a few Cinderellas got left out of the ball. Football... not even close to the same.
I see that Matt Painter kicked a player off for Purdue. He wasn't a starter but a good player who got in some important minutes according to what I read.
Duke has their all everything freshman point guard back as well. They have to be considered very dangerous and almost a lock for the final four in my opinion.
Don it will be an interesting match up if they face off with Texas. I think the Longhorns are over their late season swoon and match up with Duke pretty well.
Terry, I don't know if you are aware or not that Kelsey Barlow is the son of Ken Barlow, former outstanding BB player for ND. Both are graduates of Cathedral HS here in Indy.
I got this from another ND board. ___________________________________ The Irish are 14-6 vs. teams in the NCAA tourney. Among teams in the NCAA tourney, only UConn has more games vs. other teams in the NCAA tourney than we do (21 vs. 20). Only OSU has more wins vs. NCAA tourney teams than we do (16 vs. 14). Excluding a handful of teams that went 1-0 vs. NCAA tourney opponents, only OSU (16-2), Kansas (10-2) and Duke (10-3) had a better record vs. NCAA tourney opponents than we did. I don't know if that means anything, but I'm hoping it bodes for a fairly deep tourney run.
Hey Doc, the Horns first round opponent is no walkover. Ask the Vols about how the Huskies went down to K'ville and beat the other Orange.
I don't think Texas will have problems with them. This Tennessee team has been way up and way down this year. There is no way to predict which games the win or lose. I have us winning one round and out.
