I might be very naive or simply wishful thinking but Sully's case is perhaps different enough to lend some validity to the statement..... He's a hometown boy, grew up in Columbus a die-hard Buckeye and has been a fixture around the gym and part of the "team/community" since his brother played there when he was 11 or 12 years old. His family, while not wealthy by any stretch, is not in a dire economic situation. Big Satch says that his youngest wants a national title...if we are fortunate enough this year, he's gone, it not...I think there is a real possiblity he stays around - next years team might be even better. That said, $50 or so million guaranteed money tends to get your attention....
I think we all would prefer to have these youngsters stick around for three or four years, but with the money available in the pro ranks, it is not realistic. Looking ahead a bit to the Wisconsin game, we really need to contain Taylor Sunday. He has really been a dominate factor down the stretch.
He's been on fire and has put his name in the hat with JJ and Sully for player of the year. I think it's a toss-up at this point. We do need to defend better, in particular the high ball screens they employ to get him open looks....Craft will have his hands full, but we'll need to be more effective switching as well with the multiple screeners they run him through.....all of whom seem to be illegal to me by the way. He was unconscious against us for a 10 minute stretch in Madison..... It will be as emotional game a game as we've had in Columbus in sometime given Senior Day for a much beloved class, revenge factor, chance to win the title outright and the Sully/Ryan "deal with it" factor.....place will be rocking.
Buckeye Terry, Fans attending the game Sunday are being asked to wear gray rather than scarlet, so that OSU fans will stand out. Wisconsin red is a bit similiar to our Scarlet colors. Gray towles will be distributed to the student section. The Schott should be loud and full of spirited students and alumni! "Deal With It Signs" to rebuke the Badger Coach will be the primary theme of the afternoon. Go Bucks!
I like it.....we're having a big get together of local alumni clubs down here to watch the game. It should be a good scrap. I wish I was going......
You wishful or naive? Only when thinking you can hook it around that tree run it up past the trap and on to the green! Similar sentiments were espoused about Greg Oden. From your own Ohio State Alumni Assoc: Ohio State
I never thought he was going to stay if healthy ....and much to his credit, in spite of his NBA millions, he continues to take classes in the off-season and be a campus regular. Obviously his unfortunate series of injuries have not yet given us the opportunity to see if he can reach his vast potential, but I think he just turned 21 or 22 - he came in with the same class as Lighty - and certainly there is still time for him to have a fine career.
Who would have ever predicted the Boilers losing to Iowa? Road games are always a risk in most major conferences. The loss will allow us to claim an outright Big Ten title. I will be much more happy if we can contain the Badgers tomorrow afternoon. Winning over Wisconsin will beat backing into the title by virtue of the Iowa win this afternoon.
Thank God it's at home today. Boilers just looked very sluggish and careless yesterday...hopefully it will be one of those wakeup things. Congrats to the Buckeyes for winning the B1G outright... I wasn't going to root for the Badgers even if the Boilers still were in it.
Thanks Stu. The door is open to the Buckeyes for a number 1 seed in the tournament, if we can take care of business this afternoon. Like you, I am glad this final game is on our home court.
Surprised that the the Hawks snuck up on the Boilers....agree Stu, maybe a needed wake-up call. I expect them to be a force in the upcoming tournaments..... I do wish the Boilers had won, but I still expect our kids to be focused on the task at hand. I think they are itching to get back at Wisky and the students are going to be fired up about Bo Ryan trying to "deal with it". Should still be a pretty emotional setting with Lighty, Diebler and Dallas playing their last home game.....hate to see those kids go.
Buckeyes get their revenge against the Badgers. Excellent game for the Buckeyes. Craft performed a great defensive effort against Taylor. !4 0f 15 treys for unbelivable shooting. Jon Deibler was unreal. This will assure us of a #1 seed in the tournament for the Big Ten. Great finish to the regualar season. i will remember this team for a lone time. (I hope) Go Bucks
Congrats Don, a great season for the Buckeyes. How do you compare this team to the 2007 Final Four team?
....as I was saying...... http://eye-on-college-basketball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/26283066/27783984 OSU is the team to beat....
If Purdue had won, its fans would have been cheering for WI to upset OSU so that Purdue would tie for the B10 championship. When Purdue lost, the fans had to turn around and root for OSU to beat WI to keep them out of a tie for second place.
Terry, There may have been more raw talent on the 2007 team With Oden, Conley and Cook, but in my opinion, this years team with the experience and chemistry, is a superior group.
Sid, Reading more this morning, I discovered Ohio State is closing in on the great teams from Indiana in basketball. The Boilers have the most Big Ten titles with 22, followed by Indiana with 20. The Buckeyes how have 19. That is an amazing number for two neighboring states.
