Well we finally got a little break in the cold spell we've been having. Thurs. and Fri. were near 50 and I saw my front lawn for the first time since Dec. Well a couple of hrs. ago the snow started again. Maybe I'll see a little green on St. Paddy's day.
It has been snowing at my school all weekend, with a cold Alaska rain storm on this side of the mountains. If its snowing in the California desert, then it must be cold as hell back there where you guys live...
Got just another 9 in. last night. We're supposed to get some more this evening. 5 days until our mental health trip to Fla.
I guess I should not complain about it being 83-86 degrees yesterday and breaking out the summer gear for work...A/C is kicked on along with the ceiling fans... Gipper, It might be more like insanity on your trip down here, everyone and cousin Louie have invaded Florida to get out of the cold (I don't blame them) and you need a big stick to stir them up just to do the normal things...We have given up on eating out because the crowds are so big and will have to wait until after April when they go back north. Ralph
Ralph, my definition of a relaxing vacation is driving with the window down. I'll probably range a day and play a day if I can. No other plans. I'm looking forward to the drive from Tampa to Naples.
terrible....she just wont let up this year!coldsnowcoldsnow :!: :!: First pitch...36 days   :!: :!:
 It's snowing in SoCal again. Snow was falling on my way home from work in the Cajon Pass and the radio claims that the snow level may get down to 500 feet. If it does, that means it will snow on cliffs above the beach in Malibu. Snow is also predicted for San Francisco for the first time in 35 years. How about that Global Warming...!
Yesterday we picked up a few inches and now have had over 30 in. for the month. 2nd snowiest Feb. On record. It's also been colder than normal. Where's that global warming?
Heat wave seems to be going on in Florida, 81-86 degrees with more coming. Citrus will be in full bloom by late next week, 30 days ahead of normal timing. Peaches are growing fast with harvest target date in 17-21 days. Going crazy in the preparation of the oncoming harvest...Stores starting to send us what their advertising will look like. Wife is going nuts because the pool is still cold even though the heat is on as the A/C runs.
What is the distribution of Fla Peaches? Somebody once told me that by some sort of agreement that Fla. Oranges could not be sold West of the Mississippi and Texas/Calif Oranges East of same River. We have Peaches in Texas, the Hill Country is the prime area. I dont' think I've ever seen a Fla Peach, maybe I have but they were obscurely labeled. Texas Peaches
On the Citrus shipping it goes all over the world with no restrictions unless some bug or bacteria has us banned from a specific citrus growing area. Our tangerines move all over Texas and California and our grapefruit goes domestic and into Europe and Japan. Matter of fact I met a Japanese buyer yesterday who only purchases Red grapefruit from my farm and has been for the last ten years even though it was the first time I met him. I brought down the image of all Americans yesterday by taking a picture with the Japanese in front of a few grapefruit trees. The peaches are a different story, this is only our 4th harvest and only three farms in Florida grow peaches for commercial production and harvest with our farm being one of the three. Up to this point no Florida peaches have gone farther north than Atlanta but because the market is starting to get crowded we must go West into Texas and the Northeast to keep from overloading the Florida market. If you see a Florida peach this season it will not be from my farm but from another two hours North of us. One great thing about the Florida peaches from a customer standpoint is we have to pick these "Tree Ripe". Because of the genetics of this peach we cannot pick them green and ship them to the grocrery where folks are fooled into buying a peach that looks ready to eat but you can play tennis with. Our peaches are the kind where eating inside the house will make a mess and run all down your chin with a sweet sugary taste....
Well since Terry needs peaches in Texas the pressure is on, so before the eight weeks of 18 hour days starts with the harvest of peaches I am pulling a Gipper and taking some time off down in the Florida Keys... See ya when I get back in a couple days... Oh yeah I hired a new tractor driver that may be able to work into a full time position, you be the judge!!!
About that heat wave I'm at the Tampa airport heading home. Weather's been great since we arrived except for a light shower last night. In a dozen weeks or so we should be having the same weather.
Made it to Key Largo..... Hey Gipper my wife is in the room under the blanket, she says its too cold out here as a weak cold front moved through the state.... I think its 73 and breezy at the moment..Brrrrrr
