Seems to this day that actors in this country have something against Republicans. Edwin excepted of course.
JoCo, thanks so much for your great response re Edwin. I was the only one in Miss Dvorak's class in HS who got the answer right in the state exam. She was astounded, since, in her opinion, the ony real students in her class were girls.
Ha! LOL! Your teachers sound like my teachers. The nuns were the worst. Thirty-eight years ago, I applied for a job at Bishop Amat High School. During the interview, this nun looks right at me and proclaims, "Of course, girls are smarter than boys. That's a reality that many don't want to admit. I see that you graduated from an all-boys high school. Would teaching the girls be a problem for you?" She said it so sweetly...so matter-of-factly...that I almost fell for her goad. I guessed that she was trying to rattle me; to see how I would react under pressure, but I deflected her stab with a self-deprecating remark which I will not repeat. What I really wanted to say was, "If you're so smart, how come you're a nun?" I held my fire, but she knew I was thinking it.
Althought JOCo's unintended hijack of this topic provided - as always - some informative and interesting historical information, let's get back to the original topic. I read where former and present Alabama students started a Facebook page to collect money to aid in the recovery of Toomer's Corners, and as of a couple of days ago they had collected about $8,300. kp, THAT's what I'll remember about the Alabama folks.
8) Note to self, ...must try to ignore TOK's avatar... Step...step...bounce, bounce, bounce... ...concentration fading...can't think... ...Stepity, stepity, stepity....bouncy, bouncy, bouncy...
Sid, Tom, I would hope that would be the case, but I've got a feeling, the goodwill acts after the fact are not going to be nearly as famous as deeds of this one lunatic.
Every fan base has their share of lunatics. That is what you tend to remember because the lunatics are far more publicized by the media. The good people don't crave the publicity.
Ditto that Sid....hats off to the good guys. KP, there is no program in the country that would fare well if judged only by the antics of its idiots.....this guy was obviously an idiot.
I've learned several things living in this state... One being that there is actually a profane amount of wealth in the state of Alabama. I've also learned that money talks, but wealth whispers. Look for any and all expenses for this to be carried at least in bulk by Alabama alumni. The real story to date (aside from the obvious tragedy) is that this guy can't get legal representation. He's had two public defenders ask off already and I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel for this idiot. We're gonna have to drag some bow-tied jackass from Vanderbilt down here to defend this guy. He didn't just kill those trees, he killed a long-standing Southern football tradition. They take their Jesus seriously here in these parts, but make no mistake... football and tradition are the religion. I don't know what they're going to do with him honestly. Bin Laden would get a more fair trial in NYC than this guy is going to get in the state of Alabama. One of the fun things about this place is that it's filled with rather wonderful people who hold a contempt, if not bitter hatred, toward a rather large portion of the population... To have these folks turn all that bitter contempt in a unified manner toward one person.... God help this poor bastard.. Sadly, even the Bear wouldn't condone this so he's outta luck there too.
It matters not who the attorney for the defense is. The venue must be changed to maybe at least 1000 miles away from Alabama. Maybe where they have never heard of the SEC. Oh, wait... Never mind...
Corey, I heard the other day that Auburn fans didn't start rolling the trees after a win until the 1970's. Of course Toomer's Corner has always been the center of town and a gathering place and the trees have always been there but the rolling tradition is not that old.
rolling is throwing rolls of toilet paper over the limbs of the trees so it looks like streamers are covering it.
