Sid, I never put a lot of credibility in the rankings, whether it be AP or Coaches Poll. The media tends to influence votes and often times it is more of a popularity contest. Number 1 seed is now our most important goal and rightfully so.
ND <r>Don,<br/> <br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Yeah, it was a great team. I doubt it will happen again also especially the way college basketball is today. It's much different today.</r>
The difference today is that the great players of today do not play out their senior years. The IU team of '76....last to go undefeated.....started 4 seniors and one junior. The last most dominant team of this decade.....and really.....get a life and show me some facts if you don't think it UF's NC repeater of 2006-07.... started 4 juniors and only one senior. The only reason that team was so dominant is that these guys decided collectively to come back for their junior season after winning the NC as sophomores... when just about all of them could have been drafted as high or higher than they were a year later. IU of 1976 may be THE last NCAA BB team to go undefeated.....ever. As it stands now....given the way the millions of NBA dollars compel college supersophs or even freshmen to go pro it may be quite some time.....quite a very long time before any college basketball team wins back-to-back national titles like UF did in 2006 and 2007. As I said....their decision to come back for their junior seasons was quite unusual and some of that may have been generated by family income and lineage......Joakim Noah - Yannick Noah, Al Horford - Tito Horford, Taurean Green - Sidney Green......
Well I do think that back to back NC's are proof of their greatness, although if I remember correctly didn't they struggle some as a team during the season of their 2nd NC?
Terry....they may have been sick vs. a couple of teams.....lazy vs. a couple of others in the regular season .....but they mowed down the SEC opponents in the SEC tournament that year and likewise in the NCAAs........and there was one only one senior starter. These guys were the real deal.
