And recruiting fanatics in the Midwest are snowed in and logged on. There's bound to be a surprise or two. Let the chaos begin.
ND <t>Crazy weather here in El Paso! 2in of snow and 6 degrees!!!! It's just not right!! <br/> <br/> Well I guess I'll stay home and watch the faxes with LOIs signed roll in for ND today! <br/> <br/> Looks to a great first full season class for Brian Kelly. May bode well for the future if these guys can have a first season like this and not having recruited on a national level before. We some of these players coming in maybe ND can finally get back to having good defense. <br/> <br/> Send those faxes in boys!!!!</t>
Apparently the Irish have lost Cam McDaniels buddy Okotcha who is a DB. It was a dominos deal, OU lost one of their CB recruits to TCU and so they went after Okotcha and he's likely to sign with them today. Not a huge loss, and he was "only" a 3 star player but he was reportedly an excellent candidate for diamond in the rough status!! Oh well. Last I looked Tuitt has not faxed his letter in yet, but he is in Austin for the big USA vs the World All-Star game...the dumbest All-Star game in the pantheon of All-Star games.
Niklas <t>Kelly says Niklas is Irish!!!<br/> <br/> Nice to have some GOOD surprises on signing day for a change!!!</t>
I wasn't expecting Niklas, I really thought he'd decide it was too far and stay in So.Cal with USC. I guess everybody is in now, +1 on Niklas -1 on Okotcha. With the move of Bennett Jackson to CB I think we'll be fine. Jackson is 6'0 and fast plus the Collingsworth kid is likely to move to DB. We are pretty well set at WR/Slot so both those guys will likely see the field sooner on the defensive side.
Gotta love those Big Uglies. It will take a couple of years to make dominant linemen out of these guys. Meanwhile next year we can bring in some offensive skill players who usually hit the field earlier than the DLs. Thnigs are looking up.
Speaking of big uglies....this one is priceless. Consider his scam was the day before signing day.....ugh... http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/02/ohio_state_recruit_chris_kenne.html
Best to finish your career than get busted like Mitch Mustain. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=6083009
Not a good start for the youngster from Ohio, and a classic swan dive into the mud for the USC kid! On Mustain, he went from highly recruited QB who had all sorts of options and played the recruiting game. If I remember correctly he did want to come to ND but Weis wanted an early commit and he as I said wanted to play the game. Weis went with Zach Frasier instead, good move, Texas wanted him but again he wanted to wait. By the time it all settled down he was pretty much only able to go to Arkansas, although supposedly he callled Weis and tried to see if he could get back in the mix at ND. His mom got in a big war with Houston Nutt, which resulted in him transfering to USC where he never did anything other than lose to ND this year and relieve us of our 8 year misery!! I couldn't help but notice that he was still in jail, I wonder why the USC legal team hadn't posted bail, don't think it was that he lost to ND do you?
Auburn got that big OT Koujuando who I thought might go to Alabama, they have a great OL class maybe the best. FSU also cleaning up in recruiting. It has to have helped them that UF and Miami had coaching changes.
OK some drama!! Apparently that big OT that was headed to Auburn (Cyrus Kouandjio) is running into trouble with Mom and Dad refusing to sign his LOI to Auburn. Then there is the Mom of Floyd Raven who forged his name and sent his LOI to Ole Miss. Floyd himself wants to go to Texas A&M!! Oh and this years hold out for more publicity and fame is the #1 guy Javedon Clowney who has decided he will wait till his birthday to sign and of course have the whole stage to himself. He was no doubt inspired by the LaBron James announcement show on ESPN.
Hold on apparently Koujuando has not faxed his LOI yet. His brother plays for Alabama. If he goes to Auburn that should be interesting. Supposedly he didn't want to compete with his brother for playing time.
It must be, stories like this come up every year. Last year it was one from Oregon where the Oregon coaches revoked an offer on a kid very late and he had no options. Then there is the new take on scholarship offers, kids now days are getting one of two types..the full offer that they will take your verbal any time, and then there is the offer where they tell you they like you but they won't accept your verbal right now. We love you son, but there is a couple of other kids ahead of you and they don't work out then you're our guy type of offer. This is supposedly what happened in the case of Bennett Okotcha from Texas. He was a big hit at the OU camp but OU had two guys ahead of him and they were only going to take 2 at his position. So they said they loved him, butttttt. So he takes a Wisc verbal. Well his buddy gets offered by ND, and ND has seen his film and likes him so they offer. He decides it's warmer in South Bend than Madison and takes the ND offer. Then one of the OU kids flips to TCU and OU calls him up and says remember we said we luv you big time. He flips for his first love. Ain't love grand!
